Overview
Every Zoi in inZOI can develop skills by performing related activities. Skills progress from level 1 to level 10, with each level unlocking new interactions, recipes, compositions, or career benefits. Skills do not decay over time, so once a level is earned it stays permanently. This guide covers the fastest leveling methods for every skill, how emotional states and traits affect learning speed, and strategies for maximizing skill growth.
How Skill Leveling Works
Level cap: All teen and adult skills cap at level 10. Child skills cap at level 5. Toddler skills cap at level 5.
No decay: Skills never decrease. A Zoi who stops practicing retains their current level permanently.
Speed curve: The first few levels come quickly. Higher levels require progressively more experience points, meaning levels 8 through 10 take significantly longer than levels 1 through 3.
Skill indicators: While actively gaining skill experience, white and blue circle icons appear above the Zoi's head. A popup notification appears when a skill levels up.
Checking progress: Press O to open the Zoi Card. Click on any displayed skill to see all skills and their current levels.
Emotional State Bonuses
Emotional states directly affect how quickly a Zoi gains skill experience. Training while in the right mood makes a noticeable difference. Conversely, training in a negative emotional state can slow progress or make certain actions fail.
Positive Emotions (Faster Learning)
Emotion | Skills Boosted |
|---|---|
Amused | |
Concentrated | |
Confident | |
Curious | |
Excited | |
Tranquil |
Negative Emotions (Slower Learning)
Emotion | Skills Hindered |
|---|---|
Annoyed | |
Bored | Critical Thinking |
Embarrassed | Charm, Programming |
Lethargic | |
Nervous | Performance |
Sad | Fitness |
Uncomfortable | Housework |
Worried | Art |
Before starting a training session, check your Zoi's current emotion. If they are in a negative state for the skill you want to train, switch to a different skill that benefits from their current mood, or take actions to change their emotional state first (a fun activity, a good meal, or socializing).
Trait Synergies
While no trait directly provides a flat skill speed bonus, certain traits make Zois more likely to enter emotional states that boost specific skills.
Trait | Frequent Emotion | Skills Benefited |
|---|---|---|
Concentrated | Fitness, Critical Thinking | |
Curious | Art, Coffee Craft | |
Aflutter / Confident | Charm | |
Amused | Performance | |
Concentrated | Fitness, Critical Thinking | |
Inspired states | Art, Instrument |
When creating a Zoi in Create-a-Zoi, choose traits that align with the skills you plan to prioritize. A Zoi with the Scholar trait will naturally spend more time in the Concentrated state, making Fitness and Critical Thinking training notably more efficient.

Child-to-Adult Skill Transitions
Child skills transition into related adult skills when the Zoi ages up to teenager. If a child reaches level 5 (maximum) in a skill, they earn an Aptitude bonus that sets the corresponding adult skill to level 5 automatically. This effectively gives the teenager a five-level head start.
Child Skill | How to Level | Adult Skill(s) |
|---|---|---|
Motor Development | Treadmill, yoga mat, basketball, soccer ball, rocking horse | Fitness |
Social | Talking to friends, teddy bear interaction, socializing at school | Charm, Rhetoric |
Creativity | Playing instruments, drawing, painting, gaming | Art, Instrument |
Responsibility | Cleaning, doing homework, journaling | Housework (and related life skills) |
Investing time in child skills during the childhood stage is one of the most impactful things you can do for a Zoi's long-term development. A teenager who starts with level 5 Fitness from the Motor Development Aptitude only needs to train from 5 to 10 instead of 1 to 10, saving days of gameplay.
Toddler Skills
Toddlers develop four foundational skills that set the stage for child skills. See the Parenting Guide for detailed toddler skill development advice.
Toddler Skill | How to Develop |
|---|---|
Physical Development | Walking, playing, physical activities |
Language Development | Talking, using gestures, being taught to speak by adults |
Cognitive Development | Exploring objects, reacting to toys and music |
Emotional Development | Greeting people, building attachment with family |
Skill Leveling Strategies
Strategy 1: Mood-Match Training
The single most effective strategy is to match the skill you train to your Zoi's current emotional state. If your Zoi is feeling Amused, train Performance. If they are Concentrated, train Fitness or Critical Thinking. Swap between skills as the emotional state changes throughout the day rather than grinding one skill through unfavorable moods.
Strategy 2: Morning Routine Skill Block
Dedicate the first few hours of each day (before work) to skill training. Zois who wake up rested are often in a neutral or positive mood, making morning an ideal time. Set up a routine:
Wake up, eat breakfast (fulfills Hunger)
Use the bathroom (fulfills Bladder)
Train the target skill for 1 to 2 hours while mood is positive
Head to work (if it is a work day)
Strategy 3: Invest in Child Skills Early
If you are playing a family household, prioritize child skill development. Max out Motor Development, Creativity, Social, and Responsibility during the child stage to earn Aptitude bonuses. This gives the teenager a level 5 starting point in Fitness, Art, Instrument, Charm, Rhetoric, and Housework, cutting the leveling journey nearly in half.
Strategy 4: Multi-Skill Objects
Some objects develop skills passively while also being useful. Prioritize these in your home to get value from everyday activities.
Object | Primary Skill | Secondary Benefit |
|---|---|---|
Computer | Programming | Also levels Critical Thinking (writing), Media Production (video editing), Instrument (composing) |
Bookshelf | Various (depends on book) | Develops any skill the selected book covers |
TV | Critical Thinking (news channel) | Also levels Cooking (cooking shows) |
Mirror | Rhetoric (speech practice) | Quick repeatable action, no Meow cost |
Phone Camera | Media Production (selfies) | Free, fast, repeatable anywhere |
Strategy 5: Career-Aligned Skill Priorities
Level the skill associated with your Zoi's career to improve work performance and speed up promotions. Here are the key career-skill pairings:
Career | Primary Skill | How to Train |
|---|---|---|
Lawyer | Critical Thinking | Watch news/debates on TV, write on computer, solve puzzles on tablet |
Pro Gamer | Programming | Practice programming on computer, play games |
Football Player | Fitness | Use treadmill, gym equipment, yoga mat |
Idol Trainee | Performance + Instrument | Karaoke, microphone, piano/guitar practice |
Doctor | Critical Thinking | Watch educational TV, write research on computer |
Police/Firefighter | Fitness | Treadmill, gym equipment, outdoor exercise |
Reporter | Rhetoric + Media Production | Mirror speeches, take photos, edit videos |
Strategy 6: Use Days Off for Intensive Training
Most careers only require 3 days of work per week (Tuesday through Thursday). Use the four-day weekend for dedicated skill training sessions. A full day of focused practice can yield 1 to 2 skill levels at lower levels, or meaningful progress toward a high-level milestone.
Income from Skills
Several skills produce items or services that can be sold for Meow. This turns skill training into both character development and income generation.
Skill | What to Sell | Where to Sell | Approximate Income |
|---|---|---|---|
Art | Paintings | Pocket Market app | 500-3,500 Meow per painting (scales with level and quality) |
Cooking | Prepared meals | Direct consumption (saves money) | Saves 50-200 Meow per meal vs. buying out |
Gardening | Crops, bonsai trees | Pocket Market app | ~500 Meow per quality harvest |
Housework | Crafted furniture | Pocket Market app | Varies by item crafted |
Instrument | Music compositions | Sold from computer | Scales with level |
Critical Thinking | Written books | Sold from computer | Scales with level and genre |
Programming | Apps, programs, hacking | Sold from computer / hacking | Up to 1,000 Meow per hack at Lv10 |
Media Production | Videos | Sold from computer | Scales with level |
Art and Programming are the two most profitable skills for pure income generation. A level 10 painter producing perfect-quality paintings earns over 3,000 Meow per piece. A level 10 programmer can enter weekly hacking competitions for 1,000 Meow prizes and sell apps on the side.
Skill Cheats
For players who want to skip the grind, cheats can set any skill to any level instantly. Enable cheats through Psycat's Advice menu, then open the console with Ctrl+Shift+C.
Command: setSkillLevel [SkillID] [Level]
Skill | Cheat ID |
|---|---|
Art | Art |
Charm | Charisma |
Coffee Craft | CoffeeArt |
Cooking | Cooking |
Critical Thinking | Logic |
Fitness | Exercise |
Gardening | Gardening |
Housework | Housework |
Instrument | Instruments |
Media Production | Filming |
Performance | Performance |
Programming | Programming |
Rhetoric | Speaking |
Example: setSkillLevel Art 10 instantly maxes out the Art skill. Child skill IDs include DevSociety (Social), DevImagine (Creativity), DevExercise (Motor Development), and DevResponsibility (Responsibility). Use freezeAllNeeds true to keep needs full during skill grinding sessions.
General Tips
Always check your Zoi's emotional state before training. Matching mood to skill is the single biggest efficiency gain.
Reading books from a bookshelf is a universal method for most skills, but it may be less effective at higher levels. Use hands-on practice for levels 5 and above.
The Mirror is one of the best value objects in the game. It costs very little Meow and provides unlimited Rhetoric training.
Take selfies with the phone camera for the fastest Media Production gains. The action is instant and repeatable.
Pod coffee machines do not level Coffee Craft. You need both a Coffee Grinder and an Espresso Machine.
Playing instruments levels the Instrument skill, not Performance. Singing and karaoke level Performance.
The December 2025 patch increased skill experience from activities across the board, so leveling is faster now than it was at Early Access launch.
Child skills are the best long-term investment. A maxed child skill at level 5 translates into a level 5 adult skill automatically when the child ages up to teenager.
Programming is the most versatile income skill. At level 10, you can sell programs, enter hacking competitions, and even hack ATMs.
Art is the highest single-item income skill. A perfect-quality painting at level 10 sells for over 3,000 Meow.
When your Zoi is in a bad mood for all skills, tend to their needs first. A well-rested, well-fed, entertained Zoi learns faster than a miserable one.
