Full rewrite with expanded lore, all in-game functions, AR Company characters, cheat system access, notification details, and AR Talk chat
Psycat is a lilac bi-colour Ragdoll cat who acts as the player's main supervisor at AR Company, the fictional organization that oversees Zois' lives. The name is a portmanteau of "psyche" (Ancient Greek for "soul") and "cat," fitting her role of watching over Zois' souls and karma. An earlier development name was "Psykhet."
In the game's earliest development, Psycat was conceived as a deity. The team later reimagined her as a supervisor character, joking that she's an "ex-god." AR Company has other employees too. Cupid has a crush on Psycat, which is a nod to Greek mythology where Psyche was the goddess of the soul and Cupid represented physical love. Nyx, another AR Company member, appears during the ghost sequence when a Zoi dies and clicks "On to the Afterlife."
A character named Nemace was visible in the AR Talk menu during early playtests but no longer appears in the Early Access version.
When starting a new save, Psycat activates the elevator and brings the player to the AR Company office floor. She introduces the basic concepts of managing Zois and walks through the initial setup.
Click the book icon with a question mark (or find it in the UI menu) to open Psycat's Guide. It has several functions:
Tutorial information -- context-sensitive help pages that explain game systems
Cheat access -- toggle "Enable Cheats" in the bottom-left corner of the guide window. Once enabled, press Ctrl + Shift + C to open the cheat console. See the cheats article for the full command list.
Quick money button -- gives 100,000 Meow per click, no limit
Emergency Rescue -- unsticks Zois who get trapped in geometry or stuck in loops. Located near the money cheat button.
During Live Mode, Psycat appears in the AR Talk chat window to offer tips about what's happening. She comments on your Zois' needs, relationships, and activities. Past versions of the game showed karma-related alerts from Psycat, but a patch removed those to reduce the feeling of being judged during negative situations.
In Build Mode, Psycat appears through "Psycat's Help" to assist with building questions and offer guidance on room setup and furniture placement.
Some players have found Psycat's notifications intrusive, particularly alerts about house cleanliness and relationship changes that repeat frequently. The developers have reduced notification frequency in patches and removed certain karma-decline alerts entirely.
