Major expansion: added Fate Engine save/share philosophy, detailed 2026 timeline, multiplayer integration, technical goals
Canvastown is a new world being developed for inZOI as part of the 2026 strategic roadmap. Unlike the existing cities of Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Kucingku (each inspired by real-world urban or resort environments), Canvastown is designed as a compact, rural countryside setting with an emphasis on performance accessibility and community storytelling.
It is built on a new internal engine called the Fate Engine, which KRAFTON is developing to lower the technical requirements needed to run inZOI and to eventually transfer those optimizations back to the existing cities.
Canvastown was announced as part of the "Beyond the Fundamentals" 2026 Roadmap revealed in early January 2026. It has its own dedicated development team separate from the team handling the core game's content updates. KRAFTON has described its scope and timeline as flexible, meaning it may shift based on development progress and community feedback.
The primary goals for Canvastown are threefold:
Create a new residential environment with a different aesthetic from existing cities, specifically a calm, rural countryside feel.
Reduce the hardware barrier for playing inZOI through engine optimizations that will eventually benefit all cities.
Serve as the anchor world for the inZOI Online multiplayer platform being built for 2026.
The Fate Engine is a new internal game engine being developed alongside Canvastown. It is designed to address one of the community's most consistent requests: better performance on a wider range of hardware. By building Canvastown from scratch on the Fate Engine, KRAFTON can optimize rendering, simulation, and loading without the constraints of the existing city assets.
The key innovation of the Fate Engine is its save-and-share system. Life simulation games produce emergent stories: unplanned, often funny or dramatic sequences of events that arise naturally from gameplay. The problem is that these moments are fleeting and difficult to reproduce. The Fate Engine addresses this by letting players capture specific life scenarios and invite others to experience those exact moments.
Think of it as saving a "run" in a roguelike. If your Zoi's week produced an incredible chain of events (a surprise romance, a career disaster, a neighborhood feud), you can save that scenario and share it so other players can step into the same starting conditions and see how their version plays out. KRAFTON describes this as preserving the genre's emergent storytelling strengths while reducing randomness-driven frustration.

Canvastown is tightly connected to the inZOI Online multiplayer roadmap. The March 2026 phase introduces co-op housing and Fate Engine synchronization. By June 2026, Canvastown #1 will support hosted multiplayer sessions where players can adjust game rules, manage participants, and use mods in multiplayer. The October 2026 expansion targets large-scale dedicated servers supporting hundreds to thousands of concurrent players.
Canvastown uses customizable lots similar to the existing cities. Each lot can hold a residential property, a community space, or a commercial establishment. The compact design means every lot is within walking distance of every other lot, creating a tight-knit neighborhood feel that differs from the sprawling layouts of Dowon or Bliss Bay. The lot count grows from approximately 40 in the initial release to 50 in the October expansion.
