Overview
Welcome to Honor of Kings: World, an open-world action RPG set in the fantasy continent of Primaera. This guide covers everything new players need to know to get started, from character creation to combat fundamentals and early-game progression.
Your Character: The Flowborn
You play as the Flowborn (also called the Origin Flow Child), a highly adaptable protagonist who can copy the fighting styles of legendary heroes. Unlike most RPGs where you lock into a single class at creation, the Flowborn can learn and swap between multiple Flow styles at any time. This means your character is not restricted to one playstyle; you can switch from a melee warrior to a ranged mage to a support healer depending on the situation.
The Flow System
The Flow is a fundamental energy that connects all things in Primaera. As a Flowborn, you harness this energy to transform your combat abilities. Your base character can wield four weapon types through the Primal Flow system:
Weapon | Playstyle |
|---|---|
Ring Blades | Fast, close-range slashing with high combo potential |
Lance | Mid-range thrusting attacks with good reach |
Hammer | Slow, heavy strikes with crowd control |
Sword | Balanced melee with versatile attack patterns |
Hero Transformation
Beyond the Primal Flow weapons, you unlock hero transformations that let you temporarily take on the fighting style of legendary heroes. Each hero transformation provides a complete combat kit with unique abilities and an ultimate. You can equip two hero transformations at once and swap between them mid-combat, enabling advanced combo chains.
Recommended starter heroes for new players:
Lu Bu: Warrior class with forgiving halberd attacks and strong self-healing. Great for learning the combat system.
Zhao Yun: Warrior/Assassin with a versatile spear kit and increasing power as health drops. Rewards aggressive play.
Hou Yi: Ranger with bow attacks that build stacks for enhanced damage. Ideal for players who prefer ranged combat.
Combat Basics
Combat in Honor of Kings: World blends action-RPG mechanics with elements inspired by character action games. The core combat loop revolves around:
Light and Heavy Attacks: Chain together to build combos. Different hero transformations have unique attack strings.
Dodge: A well-timed dodge grants invincibility frames and can create counter-attack openings.
Parry: Some hero styles like Kai can parry incoming attacks, negating damage and leaving enemies vulnerable.
Skills (4 + Ultimate): Each hero transformation has four active abilities and one powerful ultimate with a cooldown.
Style Switching: Swap between your two equipped hero styles mid-combo to extend attack chains and exploit different enemy weaknesses.
Posture Break System
Bosses and tougher enemies have a posture bar that fills as you deal sustained damage. When the posture bar is full, the enemy enters a staggered state, becoming vulnerable for several seconds. This creates a critical damage window where you should unleash your strongest abilities and ultimate. Learning to build posture efficiently is essential for boss fights and raids.
Exploring Primaera
The game world spans 64 square kilometers across five distinct regions, all connected to the hub city of Chang'an. Exploration tips for new players:
Activate waypoints: Over 50 fast travel points are scattered across the map. Activate them as you discover them to save backtracking later.
Mount up: Horses are available early. Use them for ground traversal, and unlock hoverboards and flying mounts through progression.
Collectibles: The world contains over 500 collectibles that provide experience, currency, and lore about Primaera's history.
Settlements: Over 20 settlements offer NPCs, merchants, side quests, and crafting stations.
Early Progression Tips
Follow the main story: The 10-chapter main story (estimated 40 to 60 hours) is the primary source of experience, currency, and hero unlocks. Do not skip it.
Unlock hero styles early: Experiment with different hero transformations to find your preferred playstyle before investing resources.
Upgrade gear gradually: Gear follows a 1 to 6 star rarity system. Do not over-invest in low-star gear; save upgrade materials for 4-star and above.
Try dungeons: Story-mode dungeons are designed for solo players and provide solid rewards. Challenge and Nightmare modes unlock later.
Use AI companions: All content can be completed solo with AI companions. Do not feel pressured to group up before you are ready.
Join a guild: The guild system provides social benefits, shared resources, and access to guild-exclusive activities.
