Overview
Mulan is a fighter/assassin hybrid hero in Honor of Kings: World. Based on the legendary Chinese folk heroine who disguised herself as a man to serve in the army, Mulan's Flow style features a unique dual-form sword switching mechanic that lets the player toggle between a heavy greatsword form and a light dual-blade form mid-combat.
Legendary inspiration
Hua Mulan is one of the most beloved figures in Chinese folklore, originating from the Ballad of Mulan (5th–6th century). She disguised herself as a man to take her aging father's place in the army and served with distinction for twelve years before revealing her true identity. Her story emphasizes courage, filial piety, and versatility. Qualities reflected in her adaptable combat design.
Dual-form system
Mulan can switch between two weapon forms at any point during combat. Each form has a completely different moveset, attack speed, range, and strategic purpose:
Feature | Description |
|---|---|
Greatsword form | slow, powerful strikes with wide arcs. Deals heavy damage and has super armor on certain attacks. Functions as a warrior. |
Dual-blade form | fast, precise strikes with rapid combos. Emphasizes mobility and hit count. Functions as an assassin. |
Form switching | instant toggle mid-combo. Certain combos gain bonus effects when switching forms during the chain. |
Combat abilities
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Splitting strike (greatsword) | a slow overhead slam that cleaves through armor |
Tempest flurry (dual-blade) | a rapid 8-hit combo that builds stagger quickly |
Cross transition | a switch-form attack that deals bonus damage during the form change animation |
Warrior's resolve | ultimate that rapidly alternates between both forms in a choreographed sequence of heavy and light attacks |
Playstyle
Mulan rewards players who can read combat situations and choose the right form. Against slow, heavily armored enemies, greatsword form's raw damage is optimal. Against fast, evasive enemies, dual-blade form's speed keeps pressure up. The best players alternate constantly, using form-switch combos to maximize damage through the transition bonuses. This makes Mulan one of the more mechanically complex styles, similar in spirit to weapon switching systems in other action games.
