Overview
The gear system in Honor of Kings: World governs the equipment the player wears to boost their stats and combat effectiveness. Gear is obtained from dungeon drops, boss encounters, crafting, and exploration rewards. The system uses a star-based rarity scale and offers multiple layers of progression through enhancement, refinement, and set bonuses.
Equipment slots
The player's loadout consists of multiple equipment slots. Third-party sources from the Chinese beta report eight gear slots: helmet, chest piece, gloves, pants, boots, and three accessory slots. Accessories typically provide supplementary stat bonuses, elemental resistances, or utility effects like increased gathering speed or movement speed.
Weapons occupy a separate slot and follow their own progression path. For details on weapon types and upgrades, see the weapon types article.
Quality tiers
Equipment follows a 1-6 star rarity scale. Higher-star gear has better base stats, more stat rolls, and access to additional passive effects:
Item | Description |
|---|---|
1-2 star (common/uncommon) | basic gear found in the early game from starter quests and low-level dungeons. Minimal stat variety and no special effects. |
3 star (rare) | mid-tier gear with improved stats and the possibility of one passive effect. Commonly drops from story dungeons and mid-level content. |
4 star (epic) | strong gear with multiple stat rolls and passive abilities. Drops from challenging dungeon tiers and crafted with rare materials. |
5 star (legendary) | top-tier gear with the best stat ranges and powerful passives. Obtained from the hardest dungeons, weekly raids, and the gacha system. |
6 star (mythic) | the rarest tier, reportedly available from endgame raid content and special events. Maximum stat potential and unique effects. |
Core stats
Equipment provides a range of core stats that affect combat performance. Third-party sources report the following stat categories: ATK (physical attack), MATK (magic attack), DEF (defense), MDEF (magic defense), HP, MP, SPD (speed), CRIT (critical hit rate), ACC (accuracy), and EVA (evasion). The specific stats that appear on a piece of gear depend on its type (armor pieces tend toward defensive stats, accessories can provide offensive or utility stats) and rarity.
Set bonuses
Wearing multiple pieces from the same gear set activates set bonuses. Typically, a two-piece bonus provides a moderate stat increase, while a four-piece bonus unlocks a more powerful effect. Set bonuses encourage players to farm specific dungeon content for matching pieces rather than equipping random high-stat items, adding a targeted farming loop to the progression system.
Different sets are suited to different playstyles. A set designed for Primal Flow users might emphasize physical attack and critical rate, while a set tailored to Ethereal Mistveil could boost magic attack and AoE damage. Choosing the right set for your preferred Flow styles is an important part of optimizing a build.
Enhancement and refinement
Gear can be strengthened through two main systems. Enhancement increases the gear's base stats using upgrade materials obtained from dungeons and world activities. Each enhancement level provides incremental stat gains. Refinement allows players to re-roll or improve the secondary stats on a piece of gear, giving more control over the exact stat distribution. Refinement uses rarer materials and becomes increasingly important at higher difficulty tiers where stat optimization matters.
Interaction with Flow styles
The gear system interacts directly with the Flow styles a player uses. Certain gear pieces or set bonuses may specifically enhance abilities associated with particular styles or weapon types. Building a gear loadout that complements both equipped styles in the dual-class system is a key optimization goal. For broader progression context including leveling, relics, and the constellation system, see the progression and gear article.
Acquisition methods
Gear drops from a variety of sources. The highest-tier equipment comes from raid content, which features weekly lockouts and limited attempts. Mid-tier gear is available from story dungeons, challenge dungeons, crafting, and open-world exploration. The gacha system also produces equipment, though the developers have emphasized that monetization focuses on cosmetics with "nothing that is pay-to-win," suggesting that gear obtainable through gacha should also be farmable through gameplay.
