Overview

Character customization in Honor of Kings: World allows players to define the appearance of the Flowborn, the game's player-controlled protagonist. While the Flowborn's narrative role as the Son or Daughter of Primordial Flow is fixed regardless of appearance choices, the visual presentation of the character is highly flexible. The customization system covers gender, facial features, hair, voice, starting combat style, outfits, hero skins, makeup, mount skins, and emotes.
Gender Selection
Players begin character creation by choosing between a male and female form for the Flowborn. The male form has a default height of 176 centimeters, while the female form stands at 168 centimeters. This choice affects the character's base proportions and voice options but does not restrict access to any gameplay content, equipment, or Flow styles. Both forms share the same narrative identity and story progression.
Facial Customization
The face editor provides both preset templates and granular sliders for detailed adjustments. Players can modify eye shape, eye size, eye spacing, nose width, nose height, mouth shape, lip thickness, jawline contour, cheekbone prominence, and chin shape. Skin tone can be selected from a range of presets or fine-tuned using color sliders.
The preset system offers a selection of pre-built face templates that serve as starting points. Players can select a preset that closely matches their desired look and then refine individual features using the sliders. This two-step approach allows both quick character creation for those who want to start playing immediately and deep customization for those who want to spend time perfecting their character's appearance.
Hair
Hair customization includes a library of hairstyles ranging from short and practical to long and elaborate. Each hairstyle can be recolored using a color picker that supports both preset color swatches and custom color values. Hair physics are applied in real time, meaning longer hairstyles will move and react to the character's motion during gameplay, adding a layer of visual fidelity to the chosen look.
Voice Selection
Players can select from multiple voice options for their Flowborn. Each voice option affects all spoken dialogue, combat vocalizations, and emote sounds throughout the game. The available voices cover a range of tones and personalities, allowing players to match their character's voice to their visual design.
Starting Flow Style
During character creation, players choose a starting Flow style. This initial selection determines which combat style the player begins the game with, but it does not lock the player into that style permanently. Additional Flow styles are unlocked through story progression and the in-game acquisition systems. The starting choice is primarily a matter of personal preference for early gameplay, as all styles eventually become available to every player.
Narrative Identity
Regardless of the appearance choices made during character creation, the Flowborn's identity within the game's story remains constant. The Flowborn is the Son or Daughter of Primordial Flow (Yuanliu in Chinese), a student at Jixia Academy who possesses the rare ability to absorb and channel different Flow styles from heroes. The main storyline, NPC interactions, and quest dialogue all reference this fixed narrative identity. Customization affects how the character looks and sounds, not who they are within the world of Primaera.
Outfit Customization
Beyond the initial character creation, players can change their Flowborn's appearance through gear and cosmetic outfits. Equipped armor and weapons are visually represented on the character model, meaning that upgrading gear also changes the character's look. Separate cosmetic skins can override the visual appearance of gear without affecting stats, allowing players to maintain a preferred aesthetic regardless of their current equipment loadout.
Outfits for the main character come from multiple entries. Some outfits are free and unlockable through normal gameplay progression. Others are available from the Heavenly Reward cosmetic banner. Both male and female outfit variants exist, so the Flowborn's chosen gender determines which version of each outfit is worn.

Metamorph Toggle
When a player equips a Resonance (hero combat style), the Flowborn's character model normally transforms into that hero's appearance. This transformation is called Metamorph. Players who prefer to keep their custom Flowborn appearance active at all times can disable the Metamorph skin on a per-class basis.
To disable Metamorph, press Escape, navigate to the Cosmetic section, select the Metamorph tab, and turn off the skin for each individual class. When the Metamorph skin is turned off, the player character retains the Flowborn's custom appearance even while using that hero's Flow style abilities. This is a purely visual toggle; it does not affect combat stats or skill behavior in any way.
Hero Skin Unlocking
Premium hero skins, which are the default Metamorph appearances when using a specific Resonance, can be unlocked through gameplay challenges rather than only through purchase. Each hero has a set of combat-related objectives tied to their skin unlock. For example, one hero's default skin is unlocked by performing a counter attack after a perfect dodge 30 times. These challenges encourage players to master the hero's mechanics and reward skill-based play with cosmetic content.
The unlock conditions vary by hero and typically involve combat milestones specific to that Resonance's playstyle. Once a hero skin is unlocked, it becomes permanently available for the Metamorph system.
Character Makeup
In addition to the base facial customization, players have access to makeup options that can further refine their Flowborn's appearance. Makeup customization items are available in the in-game store, allowing players to add eye shadow, lip color, blush, and other cosmetic touches. Makeup is applied on top of the base facial features and can be changed or removed at any time.
Hoverboard Mount Skins
The Flowborn's hoverboard mount, used for traversal across Primaera's open world, supports cosmetic skins. Hoverboard skins are available in the in-game store and change the visual appearance of the mount without affecting movement speed or handling. These skins range from subtle color variations to more elaborate designs.
Emotes
Players can purchase and equip a variety of emotes for their Flowborn. Emotes include solo animations (dances, gestures, poses) and group or romance emotes that can be performed cooperatively with other players. Group emotes are particularly popular for social play, as they allow two or more players to perform synchronized animations together. Emotes are available from the in-game store, the Heavenly Reward banner, and the pity shop. See Gacha and Pity System for details on how emotes drop from cosmetic pulls.
Photo Mode
Honor of Kings: World includes a photo mode that lets players capture screenshots of their customized character in various poses, locations, and lighting conditions. Photo mode provides controls for camera angle, depth of field, filters, and character expressions. It is accessible at most points during open-world exploration, allowing players to document their adventures and share their character's appearance with the community.
