Renown is a standing level that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave tracks for the player rather than for any one unit. It is not a currency you spend. It is a threshold the game checks in at least three separate places, which is what makes it worth its own page: a party can be strong enough for a fight and still be turned away from a certification exam, a recruit, or a road, because the number behind the player's name is too low.
How Renown Is Raised
Renown rises through main missions, subquests, paralogues and a handful of smaller events. Most of those sit in the between-match routine or in optional fights rather than in the main battles, so a large share of Renown accrues while you are preparing for the next opponent.
Source | Detail |
|---|---|
Story progress | Clearing chapters on a route raises it. |
Quests | Completed quests pay out gold and Renown together. Part I subquests pay up to 200 Renown each, most of them between 30 and 100. |
Helping townsfolk | Errands and requests around Dagsion count toward it. |
The Adventure Guide | A hint track presented by Anna that explains the game systems and pays Renown for engaging with them. |
Main missions | Clearing each chapter's main mission raises it. |
Paralogues | Each of the nine Part I paralogues pays 150 Renown along with 20,000 gold and an item. |
Audiences with the gods | When a shrine icon on Temple Row is coloured in on the map screen, the god can be visited for a short conversation that grants some Renown. It does not cost a turn. |
Route quests | Leda's Perform Quests pay around 180 to 200 Renown each, Theodora's Send Supplies quests and Dietrich's Dread Warrior Challenges also pay gold and Renown. |
What Renown Gates
Certification Exams
Beginner exams require Renown 1, Specialty exams Renown 4 and Advanced exams Renown 8. Recommended character levels and weapon ranks are separate parts of certification. Certification Exams lists the tier checklist and each class page gives its proficiency requirements.
Recruitment
Recruiting a character outside the story runs on two bars at once: a support level between that character and the route's Hero, raised through gifts and shared meals, and a Renown level. Recruitment covers the method. Individual characters set their own minimums, and the requirements change from route to route. The figures below were first read off a pre-launch build; a recruitment guide written from the retail game has since listed every character's requirements route by route, and each pair matches one of its routes. Across that guide, Renown requirements run from 3 to 10.
Character | Support Level | Renown Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
2 | 3 | Dietrich's route. The lowest pair recorded | |
1 | 4 | Cai's route | |
3 | 5 | Theodora's and Leda's routes | |
3 | 6 | Dietrich's route | |
3 | 8 | Dietrich's route. The worked example used in the recruitment segment | |
3 | 10 | Leda's route. The steepest figure recorded, and described as such | |
3 | 7 or 9 | Renown 9 on Cai's and Dietrich's routes and 7 on Leda's; she joins automatically on Theodora's |
The World Map
Renown reaches outside the city as well. Some checkpoints on the world map refuse passage while the level is too low, and the Urkulu Stronghold is the named example of a location gated that way. That makes Renown a soft progression lock on exploration as well as on units.
Reviews of the finished game describe the same pattern at a larger scale, with whole regions and paths opening up as Renown rises from story progress and side quests.
Dagsion Facilities and Quests
Renown 7 opens watching plays, while Renown 8 opens acting and the Thermae. Leda's drink requests use Renown 3, 6, 8 and 10. Other thresholds improve training, meal effects, farming, recruitment and tribute rather than merely unlocking a new facility.
Higher Renown rewards
The listed rewards continue beyond Renown 10: level 11 gives one Extra Large Bullion, and level 12 gives one Portrait of Yu Phas. A highest listed reward is not proof of a hard level cap. Renown checks and character Support remain separate conditions, and recruitment requirements vary by route.

Main missions, side quests, audiences with gods and Dietrich's Answerer's Cry encounters raise Renown. Audiences become available from Renown 2 when the calendar offers the holy-day event. The four routes also have their own recurring requests: Cai helps townspeople, Dietrich answers challenge letters, Theodora sends supplies and Leda performs.
