Yu Phas is the goddess of death and night in the Dagdan pantheon, titled the Keeper of Death and Night. She is the goddess the Kingdom of Saramis worships, and she is regarded with fear or open contempt almost everywhere else on Dagda. She is married to Solel, the Divine Sovereign, and she is the mother of Aurora.

The Keeper of Death and Night
The strongest source on her is Nintendo's own narration, and it introduces her without using her name. In the segment presenting Theodora, the narrator says: "Hailing from the Kingdom of Saramis in the south, Theodora represents a culture that worships the Keeper of Death and Night, a goddess loathed throughout the lands." That line gives the title and the reaction to her, but not the name.
Yu Phas is the name attached to that title in the game's other published material, and the two descriptions match on every point: a goddess presiding over death and the night, worshipped in Saramis, and poorly regarded within Dagda.
Saramis and Her Faith
Her faith has its core in Saramis, and Theodora carries it as a matter of state rather than private devotion. The Direct has her swearing to restore the honor of her goddess and to defend the faith of her people and the peace of her kingdom, which puts a shunned religion at the center of what she is fighting for in the Heroic Games.
Saramis also forbids the use of writing and preserves its history and wisdom by oral tradition instead. Accounts drawn from preview builds trace that prohibition to her teachings. The same accounts describe Theodora's ambition as including the rebuilding of a temple to Yu Phas, though they disagree about where it would stand, so the location is best left open.
Place in the Pantheon
Yu Phas is the wife of Solel, the Divine Sovereign who rules the Dagdan Empire and declares the Heroic Games open. Their daughter is Aurora, goddess of the stars and of navigation. A gate near Dagsion is described as commemorating the wedding.
The Direct states that Temple Row in the capital is watched over by a bronze statue of the Divine Sovereign and holds seven temples, and volunteering at one earns a blessing to use in battle. Preview accounts place a temple of Yu Phas among the row's lower level, which puts her inside the state pantheon despite how her worship is treated. Temple Blessings covers what volunteering does.
The People of the White Egg
One strand of published backstory ties her directly to the founding of Saramis. Dagda the Great, the empire's first and founding king, is said to have wiped out the People of the White Egg, the ancestors of the Saramis people, and Yu Phas is credited with saving the children who survived. Those survivors are said to have gone on to found a kingdom called Damascar. This account comes from text and dialogue reported out of preview builds rather than from an official summary, so treat it as provisional.

She appears in the August 2026 Direct as a woven tapestry rather than as a character on screen. Nintendo has not announced whether she appears in person at any point in the game.
