Commoner

Created Commoner hub covering the shared starting class, its place outside the tier ladder and the units listed in it
Commoner is the class most of the playable cast of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave begins in. It is not one of the five Beginner classes and it is not on the exam ladder. It sits outside the three-tier structure entirely, alongside Noble, as a starting state a unit leaves rather than a rank a unit earns.
Classes divides the ladder into Beginner, Specialty and Advanced tiers, each reached by passing a certification exam. Commoner and Noble are listed apart from all three. The practical meaning is that a Commoner has somewhere to go and nothing to lose by going: the class carries no proficiency bonus of its own, so the first exam a unit passes is a straight upgrade rather than a trade.

Tier | Outside the three-tier ladder |
Unit type | Infantry |
Weapons | Any type, with no proficiency bonus |
Paired class | Noble, the other starting class |
Class skill | None published |
The unrestricted weapon list is the class's defining trait and its limitation at once. A Commoner can be handed a sword, a spear, an axe, a bow, gauntlets or a tome and will use it, which is what makes the class a blank slate for a player deciding where a unit should end up. What it will not do is gain the proficiency that the specialised Beginner classes feed into the exam requirements, so time spent as a Commoner builds weapon ranks through use at the arena plaza rather than through a class bonus. Weapons sets out how the six types divide, and Between-Match Preparation covers the training that raises a rank.
Roster material publishes a starting class for well over twenty units, and Commoner is by far the most common entry. A class listing records where a character starts, not where they end up: every one of these can be moved through the ladder by passing exams.

Two readings disagree in one place. Seteth is listed as a Commoner in the roster grouping while a separate preview account placed him on a flying mount, and Leda is listed as a Commoner in one place and in the returning Hunter class in another. Neither has been settled, and both are recorded on those characters' own pages.
As of September 13, 2026, no base stats, growth rates or stat modifiers exist for the Commoner in this game, and no class skill has been named for it. No English class description has appeared either. Stat tables carrying this class name from other titles describe those titles and are not repeated here.
Noble is the other class outside the ladder. Classes sets out the three tiers a Commoner can move into, and Certification Exams covers the test that gets a unit out of this class.
