DragonSword: Awakening has nineteen playable Heroes, each with a distinct Status Ailment kit. All are unlockable through story and in-game play under the buy-to-play Western release. Six Heroes have been individually named as playable so far: Lute, Castella, Aria, Kalien, Theresia, and Ornette. A seventh publicly named character, Johnny, has not yet been confirmed as one of the playable nineteen.

DragonSword: Awakening is confirmed for PC via Steam in July 2026, with a demo at Steam Next Fest in June. Steam Deck support is in preparation; console and mobile are not planned at launch.

Aria is a playable Hero in DragonSword: Awakening and a member of the mercenary band that travels with Lute, Johnny, and Castella. She specializes in firepower, deploying bombs and stacking the Fire and Airborne Status Ailments to set up tag-team combos.

Theresia is a playable Hero in DragonSword: Awakening and a Heretic Inquisitor of the Organa Order. Wielding twin sacred maces, she stacks the Bleed and Stun Status Ailments and serves as one of only ten Inquisitors with execution authority across the Continent of Orbis.

Status Ailments are the combat currency at the heart of DragonSword: Awakening. Each of the nineteen Heroes brings its own distinct ailment kit, and stacking them on a target is the setup step for Active Skills and Signal Skills. Multiple Heroes share Stun as a secondary ailment.

Dragon Riding is the named aerial traversal feature in DragonSword: Awakening. Hound13 has said the freedom-of-movement design is inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.

A playable demo of DragonSword: Awakening is scheduled for Steam Next Fest in June 2026, about one month ahead of the July 2026 full release. The demo is Hound13's primary pre-launch show for the combat, the Hero roster, and the rebuilt buy-to-play experience.

Signal Skills are the combo finisher in DragonSword: Awakening. Triggered through Switching Signals, they let Heroes tag in mid-fight to chain devastating combos from stacked Status Ailments.

The Organa Order is a religious-judicial faction in DragonSword: Awakening. It fields ten Heretic Inquisitors with authority to execute heretics on sight across the Continent of Orbis. Two role tiers are publicly named: the Heretic Inquisitor Theresia and the Saintess of the Dawn Ornette.

The Webzen publishing dispute is the contractual breakdown that pivoted DragonSword from a Korean free-to-play live-service launch into the Steam-published, buy-to-play DragonSword: Awakening. Hound13 terminated the contract in February 2026; Webzen filed an injunction in April 2026.
