Ranged Weapons of the World: Bows, Vol. I is a crafting manual in Crimson Desert that unlocks bow crafting recipes at the Smithy. This is the first volume in the bow-focused branch of the Ranged Weapons of the World series, providing Kliff with the knowledge needed to forge basic bows from common materials. Once read, the recipes it contains are permanently learned and the manual itself can be sold to any merchant for extra silver.
Bows are one of the four ranged weapon categories in Crimson Desert, alongside pistols, rifles, and hand cannons. They allow Kliff to attack enemies from a safe distance with arrows, making them useful for thinning out enemy groups before engaging in melee combat.
This crafting manual can be purchased from Rhett at the Hernand Equipment Shop, located near the blacksmith. Like other Vol. I manuals, it is available early in the game for a modest price in silver. Additional copies may also be found scattered across Pywel during exploration. Whenever you are near a crafting book, a small book symbol appears on the mini-map to help you track it down.
All recipes unlocked by this manual are forged at the Smithy. Visit a blacksmith such as Turnali in Hernand, select the crafting option, and choose the bow you want to forge. No currency is required to craft equipment; you only need the listed materials.

Timber is one of the most common gathering materials in the game, obtained by logging trees found across every region. Fine Timber is a higher-quality wood that drops less frequently and can also be purchased from material vendors.

Higher-tier bow recipes become available through later volumes in the series, such as Ranged Weapons of the World: Bows, Vol. II, which can be found inside the Spire of Insight tower. These advanced volumes unlock bows with stronger base stats and additional effects, but require rarer crafting materials.
After crafting a bow, you can improve it through refinement at the Smithy. Bow refinement uses Timber and Fine Timber for the early levels (1 through 4). Level 5 and beyond requires Abyss Artifacts. Alternatively, you can sacrifice a duplicate bow to pay the refinement cost instead of raw materials.
Read every crafting manual as soon as you find it. The recipes are permanently learned, and you can sell the manual for silver afterward.
Stock up on Timber and Fine Timber before visiting the Smithy so you can craft multiple bows in one trip.
Keep an eye on the mini-map while exploring. The book icon that appears when you are near a crafting book also applies to higher-volume manuals hidden in dungeons and towers.
Bows pair well with a melee weapon for a flexible combat style. Switch to your bow to soften targets from range, then close in with a sword or spear for the finish.
