Overview
Jails, officially called Constabularies, are detention facilities scattered across the regions of Pywel in Crimson Desert. There are six constabularies in total, and each one serves two purposes: it is where Kliff gets locked up after being arrested for criminal activity, and it is where players can deliver captured bounty targets to collect their reward. Constabularies are tied directly to the Crime System and the Bounty System, so understanding where they are and how arrest works is useful for anyone planning to test the limits of the law.
All Constabulary Locations
Six constabularies exist across the continent of Pywel. Each region with a major settlement has one nearby.
Constabulary | Region | Location Details |
|---|---|---|
Calphade Jail | Calphade | Found on the north side of Calphade Castle. This is the constabulary for the Calphade region and is the closest to the castle district. |
Hernand Constabulary | Located west of the City of Hernand. It is an open camp with makeshift wooden prison cells rather than a permanent stone building. This is the constabulary most players encounter first. | |
Varnia Constabulary | Varnia | Positioned just north of the Whitesand Retreat. Serves the Varnia coastal area. |
Delesyia Constabulary | Delesyia | Situated right outside the main gate that leads into the Castle of Marni. Handles crimes committed in and around Delesyia. |
Demeniss Constabulary | Demeniss | Found outside the city walls of Demeniss. Players approaching from the south will spot it before reaching the city gates. |
Tomasso Constabulary | Tomasso | Located on the outskirts of the city of Tomasso. Positioned along one of the main roads leading into the settlement. |
How Arrest Works
When Kliff commits a crime (theft, assault, or murder) and is spotted by a nearby NPC, a bounty is placed on his head. The bounty amount depends on the severity of the offense: theft carries minor fines, while assault and murder generate much larger bounties. Regions where you have an active bounty appear marked in red on the map.
If your bounty climbs high enough, guards in the area will turn hostile when they see you. They will attempt to tackle and restrain Kliff through a quick-time event. If you fail the QTE or choose not to resist, you are apprehended and taken to the nearest constabulary.
A brief jail sequence plays out, in-game time skips forward, and your bounty is automatically paid from your silver upon release. You also lose some Contribution reputation in the region where the crime occurred. Getting arrested is not optional in the sense that guards will keep pursuing you once your bounty is high enough, though skilled players can outrun or fight their way past patrols.
Bail and the Debt System
When you are released from jail, the cost of your bounty is deducted from your silver. If you do not have enough silver to cover the fine, the game does not keep you locked up indefinitely. Instead, you are released into a debt state with negative silver. While in debt, every piece of silver you earn from any source (quest rewards, loot sales, wagon trading profits, and so on) goes directly toward paying off the debt until the balance returns to zero. This garnished wages system means you can always progress, but profitable activities are effectively paused until the debt clears.
Alternative: Paying Fines at a Church
You do not have to go to jail to clear a bounty. If you would rather avoid the arrest sequence and the lost time, visit any Confessional in a church and select the "Buy Writ of Absolution" option. This lets you pay the full bounty amount on the spot. The bounty clears immediately, guards stop pursuing you, and you avoid the Contribution penalty associated with being arrested. Churches are found in most major settlements, so this option is available in nearly every region.
Turning In Bounty Targets
Constabularies also serve as turn-in points for bounty notices. After capturing or killing an outlaw from a bounty notice posted by House Celeste, you bring them to the constabulary in the region where the bounty was issued. Delivering a bounty target rewards silver and increases your Contribution reputation with that region. The captured outlaw is placed in one of the constabulary's holding cells.
Tips
If you plan to commit crimes deliberately (for the Above the Law Challenges), save beforehand or keep enough silver to pay fines at a church. The debt state can stall your economy for a while.
Constabularies are not marked on the map with a unique icon early in the game. Look for makeshift camps with wooden cages near the outskirts of major settlements.
Surrendering to guards (not resisting the QTE) is the fastest way through the jail sequence. Fighting back only delays the inevitable if you are surrounded.
Wearing a Mask while committing theft reduces your chance of being identified, but getting caught while masked still results in a bounty.
Region-specific bounties mean you can have a clean record in Hernand while being wanted in Delesyia. Each region tracks its own law enforcement independently.
