Heart Beyond Borders

Overview

Heart Beyond Borders is a main quest in Chapter 1: The First Encounter of Crimson Desert. A child named Rulupee has lost her cat, Jiji, on a rooftop in the City of Hernand. Kliff must freerun up the buildings, grab the cat, and return it. The quest rewards Shai's Pendant, a unique accessory. This is one of the five Trials of Kindness quests that must be completed to unlock Mystical Key.

Speak with the Child

Head west from the Hernand Inn to a small courtyard. Rulupee, a child wearing a green hood, is standing near a building and looking up at the rooftops. Talk to her and she explains that her cat, Jiji, climbed up and will not come down. She also mentions needing to return before "the chief" gets upset.

Retrieve the Cat

Freerun up the side of the nearby building using the standard climbing controls. Once on the roof, look for Jiji. The cat moves around, so approach quickly and press Square/X to grab her before she scurries further away. Once you pick up the cat, the game automatically brings Kliff back down to Rulupee and a cutscene plays.

Pick Up the Pendant

After the cutscene, Rulupee thanks Kliff and mentions she will tell the chief about his kindness. A pendant appears on the ground near where Rulupee was standing. Pick it up with Square/X, then press Circle/B to exit the inspection view. This is Shai's Pendant.

Bell Tower (Optional)

Near the rooftop where you found the cat, there is a bell tower. Ring the bell inside it to clear part of Hernand's fog of war on the map. There are 8 bell towers total across the region, and ringing all of them reveals the complete map. This is worth doing while you are already on the rooftops.

Tips

• Do not chase the cat slowly. Sprint toward Jiji and grab her quickly, or she will keep moving to different parts of the roof.

• Ring the bell tower while you are up on the rooftops. You are already in the right spot, and it uncovers a section of the map for free.

• Shai's Pendant is a unique item. Its full use becomes clear later in the story, so hold onto it.

• There is no combat in this quest.

Detailed Walkthrough Notes

Rulupee's Dialogue

Rulupee, the child in the green hood, provides several pieces of story context during her dialogue. She mentions that her cat Jiji climbed onto a house roof and refuses to come down. More interestingly, she references needing to return before "the chief" notices her absence. This is an early hint at Rulupee's connection to a larger group. She also mentions that she might be able to discuss a potential reward with the chief, though she is uncertain whether Kliff would be welcome. These lines foreshadow future encounters with Rulupee's community.

Rooftop Cat Pursuit

Retrieving Jiji requires using the freerun system to climb the building. Look for ledges, window sills, and protruding bricks that serve as handholds. Once on the roof, Jiji moves around skittishly. The key is to approach quickly without hesitation. Sprint directly toward the cat and press Square/X to grab her before she scurries to another part of the roof. If Jiji escapes your first attempt, she relocates to a nearby section of rooftop. There is no penalty for failed attempts, but chasing the cat across multiple rooftops extends the quest unnecessarily.

Shai's Pendant Pickup

After the cutscene where Rulupee departs with Jiji, look at the ground near where she was standing. Shai's Pendant appears as a glowing pickup. Press Square/X to collect it, then press Circle/B to close the inspection view. The pendant's full significance is not explained at this point, but it upgrades into the Shining Shai Pendant during the Woman in White quest at the end of Chapter 1. Hold onto it in your inventory.

Bell Tower Opportunity

While you are already on the rooftops retrieving Jiji, take a moment to look for the nearby bell tower. There are 8 bell towers scattered across the Hernand region. Ringing a bell tower clears the fog of war from that section of the map, revealing points of interest, quest markers, and terrain features. Since you are already at rooftop height, reaching the bell tower requires minimal additional climbing. Each bell tower you ring during normal quest progression saves you a dedicated trip later.
