Quest Start
Fading Tinkerton is a side quest in the Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild faction, based in the Delesyia region. It becomes available around Chapter 6 through Chapter 8 of the main quest.
To start the quest, speak with Cordelia in Timberton, a small town located southwest of Delesyia Castle (City of Steel). Alternatively, players can skip this introduction and go directly to Marni's Drilling Rig on the southeastern border of the map, then liberate it from bots to advance the quest.
Liberating the Drilling Rig
The enemies at Marni's Drilling Rig are mechanical constructs. They are vulnerable to lightning damage, so players with a lightning imbue build or lightning arrows will have an easier time clearing them out.
Reactivating the Rig
After liberating the drilling rig, the player must reactivate it (Abandoned Drilling Rig quest). The reactivation involves a sequence of mechanical interactions:
Grab an oil canister and insert it into the designated slot
Force palm the slot closed, then pull the handle to ignite
Open two exhaust vents by turning the handwheels to the right
Kick the foot switch on the control deck, then pull the small lever followed by the large lever
Enter the valve room (crouch and force palm through the revolving door) and repair two broken conduits
Pull the lever to open the ventilation duct, then traverse it using Nature's Grasp
In the final room, crouch and force palm the loose screws to complete reactivation
Quest Completion and Rewards
After reactivating the rig, fast travel to the nearest Abyssal Nexus and then return to Timberton to deliver the news to Cordelia. The fast travel step is required because the game world needs to reload for the quest state to update properly.
Once the quest is complete, a new merchant appears in Timberton (the player must fast travel away and back first to trigger the merchant spawn). This merchant sells pure white dye and flawless timber, both of which are useful crafting materials not easily found elsewhere.
Tips
Check the faction quest board regularly, as available quests rotate over time.
Completing faction quests increases your reputation with the local faction, unlocking access to better vendors and rewards.
