Crimson Desert is filled with subtle references to other games, pop-culture phenomena, and hidden mechanics that Pearl Abyss never explains to the player. The community has catalogued dozens of easter eggs since launch, ranging from direct character homages to entire puzzle sequences inspired by popular media. This article covers every verified easter egg and secret found so far, organized by category.
For a broader list of hidden mechanics, traversal tricks, and unexplained systems, see the Hidden Secrets and Tips article. For hidden locations and environmental puzzles, see Secret Passages and Hidden Areas.
One of the most widely discussed easter eggs is a bounty poster referencing the legendary Elden Ring player "Let Me Solo Her," who became famous for helping thousands of players defeat Malenia while wearing nothing but a pot on his head. In Crimson Desert, after finishing Chapter 1 and entering Hernand Town in the Hernandian Territory, players can spot bounty posters pinned to standalone lamp posts along the streets. One of these posters describes an outlaw named Salvatore, whose appearance is unmistakably modeled after Let Me Solo Her: a nearly naked figure wearing a pot-shaped helmet and wielding two swords.
To complete the bounty, head to Sunset Valley and track Salvatore down. Defeating him finishes the quest and lets you turn in the bounty at any notice board, just like any other outlaw capture. This is not the first time a game has paid tribute to Let Me Solo Her; Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 included a similar nod.
The Drakesfall Gorge Ruins Puzzle is a direct recreation of the "Red Light, Green Light" game from the Netflix series Squid Game. Inside the Ancient Ruins of Drakesfall Gorge, players encounter a row of stone soldier statues lining a pathway. At the far end stands a larger statue of a king.
Stepping on the stone plate at the edge of the area causes the soldier statues to raise their swords. The player must walk toward the king statue while it faces away and freeze in place whenever it turns around. If the king statue catches the player moving, its eyes glow red and the puzzle resets. The player must reach the far end without being caught. Completing this puzzle rewards an Abyss Artifact (a skill point), making it one of the few easter eggs that also provides a meaningful gameplay reward.
The Blinding Flash ability can be used to cook raw food by concentrating a beam of sunlight onto meat placed on the ground. This hidden interaction is never explained by any tutorial or in-game hint. Players discovered it by experimenting with the light reflection mechanic in open fields during daytime.
To use it, drop raw meat (such as Raw Meat or Raw Bird Meat) on the ground, then activate Blinding Flash while aiming at the food. The item visually changes and its description updates to "Grilled Meat" or "Grilled Bird Meat." The same beam of light also sets fire to wooden structures, bushes, carts, and enemies, and can reveal hidden relics. This cooking trick channels the same experimental physics spirit found in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, where players discovered they could cook food by dropping it on hot surfaces. Blinding Flash requires ambient sunlight and does not produce a usable beam indoors or at nighttime.
Some walls in Crimson Desert are illusory, a classic mechanic borrowed directly from the Dark Souls series. If the Guiding Light or the player's lantern highlights a wall with a marker but nothing happens when the interact button is pressed, the player should try walking directly into it. The wall dissolves on contact, revealing a hidden passage or secret room behind it.
This mechanic is not flagged by any tutorial, and it is easy to spend dozens of hours playing without realizing it exists. Known illusory walls appear in several dungeons and indoor environments. Some conceal treasure chests, others lead to entirely new areas. The community has compared this directly to Dark Souls, where "try rolling" and "hidden path ahead" messages left by other players became a hallmark of the franchise.
While exploring the open world, players occasionally spot a small goblin scurrying along a road with a chest strapped to its back. These creatures flee on sight and must be chased down and defeated before they escape. Killing one drops a gold bar that can be exchanged at any Bank for 500 silver. The encounter is a clear nod to the Treasure Goblin archetype popularized by Blizzard's Diablo series, where similar creatures carrying bags of loot run away from the player and must be killed quickly.
Treasure goblins in Crimson Desert spawn randomly along roads and paths. Their spawn locations are not fixed, so encountering one is partly a matter of luck. Players who spot one should react immediately, as the goblin will disappear if not caught within a short window.

There are 43 Waterside Caves hidden behind waterfalls throughout Pywel. Each contains treasure chests with armor, weapons, or recovery items such as Palmar Pills. The telltale sign of a hidden entrance is a small stone platform in front of the waterfall with stacked stones nearby. To enter, stand on the platform and use the Stab attack (R1+Square on PlayStation, RB+X on Xbox) to pierce through the water. Waterfalls in Crimson Desert are never purely decorative; if you see one, check for the stacked stone marker.
The Secret Chamber of the Golden Plains is a hidden mural puzzle located in the Golden Plains area of Demeniss. North of the first 'E' in Demeniss on the map, near Honeywood Apiary and Windmere Manor, a ruined building covered in thorny vines hides the entrance. Burn the vines with a fire arrow to reveal a room containing a wall of pushable blocks, each inscribed with a symbol.
A mural in an adjacent room depicts the Demeniss region with five spots marked in red. These correspond to real locations on the world map where clues identify which symbols to push. The correct blocks are Grapes, Horse, Fig, Pigeon, and Fish (they can be pushed in any order). Note that the mural is flipped relative to the actual world map. Solving the puzzle reveals an Abyss Cresset and the Memories of Prosperity, a consumable that reveals the locations of several waterfall caves.
Multiple buildings across Pywel contain revolving bookshelves that conceal hidden rooms. Interacting with the correct bookshelf causes it to swing open, revealing a passage to a chamber behind it. These rooms typically contain loot, lore documents, or connections to other hidden areas. One notable example appears in Gorthak, where Hidden Treasure Map Piece 3 leads players to a gate where a flight of stairs descends to a room with a bookshelf at the far end. Pushing the bookshelf reveals a hidden room containing a reward chest.
Some fireplaces in buildings throughout Pywel are boarded up with breakable planks. Attacking the boards reveals a hidden space behind the fireplace, usually containing a chest with loot. This type of secret requires players to examine indoor environments carefully rather than only interacting with obvious objects. No tutorial explains this mechanic.
Scattered across Pywel are parchments called Hidden Treasure Map Pieces. Each shows a hand-drawn image of a specific location where treasure is buried. The game provides no markers or quest indicators for these; players must recognize the depicted location and travel there to dig up the loot. Rewards typically include rare weapons, armor, jewels, and unique consumables.

The Sanctum of Absolution, located southwest of Hernand City and directly south of Scholastone Institute, houses one of the toughest optional bosses in the game: Antumbra's Sword. This fight is entirely missable because the Sanctum is not part of any main quest. Defeating Antumbra's Sword rewards the player with the Vessel of Dark Pursuit, a two-handed sword with 25 ATK and the Wound of Darkness Abyss skill. This special attack replicates the boss's own vertical slash move. An Abyss Artifact is also awarded.
Near Hernand's castle, a man can be found hanging from a cliff edge. He mentions that he slipped while trying to reach a treasure chest on a ledge below. Using the Crow's Wing gliding ability, the player can descend to the ledge and recover the loot that the NPC could not reach. This is one of many examples of environmental storytelling where NPC dialogue provides the hint for a nearby hidden reward.
When the player first wanders into Pororin Forest, the Shai children and their floating teapot guardians repeatedly knock Kliff unconscious with sleep darts. Each time, the player wakes up at the Outcast's Hearth camp on the outskirts of the forest. This happens every time the player tries to enter, and it is not a bug.
On the third attempt, a scripted event triggers. After waking up, a Shai named Arkin appears nearby, starting The Unreachable Village quest. Arkin explains that the village chief's hat, called the Pororin Relic, was stolen by a giant Ent (a massive walking tree). Recovering the relic and returning it to Arkin grants access to Florindale Village and establishes an alliance between the Greymanes and the Pororin Forest Guardian faction. The follow-up quest, Children of the Woods, tasks the player with finding four young Shai who have scattered across the world of Pywel.
Crimson Desert hides 60 Abyss Cressets scattered across its five regions. Each one is tucked into a cliff face, a hidden cave, a rocky pillar, or the summit of a mountain. Finding all of them unlocks the "Pilgrim of Wonders" trophy and achievement. Each discovered Secret Place also provides an Abyss Artifact (skill point) and opens a new fast travel point at that location.
Some Secret Places require specific traversal skills to reach. Aerial Force Palm provides vertical boosts for reaching high ledges. The Crow's Wing gliding ability covers horizontal distances. Triple Aerial Focus Palm can reach the highest peaks. For a complete list of all 60 locations, see the All Secret Places Locations article.
Pearl Abyss has officially confirmed that "small Easter eggs and homages that Black Desert fans might recognize" are scattered throughout Crimson Desert. However, the studio stresses that these are purely fun nods, not continuity between the two games. Director of Marketing and PR Will Powers compared the relationship to the Final Fantasy series: "There's chocobos across Final Fantasy, there's always a Cid, but there's only one Snow, there's only one Lightning." He described Crimson Desert as "a different universe, different IP altogether."
One confirmed cross-reference exists within Black Desert Online itself. During the Deadeye class ascension questline, a character named Marni references "Delesyia," which is a major region in Crimson Desert. This has fueled multiverse speculation in the community, but Pearl Abyss maintains it is a fun nod rather than a lore bridge. The alchemist Alustin also appears in both games, though the studio has not confirmed whether this represents a shared character or a thematic callback.
Pearl Abyss ran a Black Desert x Crimson Desert collaboration event tied to pre-orders. The crossover introduced cosmetic items in Black Desert Online whose designs mirror creatures from Crimson Desert, including a Tier 7 pet based on the Golden Star dragon and a Golden Star Statue camp decoration. These items reference the golden star boss featured in Crimson Desert's pre-release trailers.
One of Crimson Desert's most distinctive hidden systems is the ability to learn skills by watching NPCs perform actions. This mechanic is never explained in any tutorial. Watching a fisherman at the docks teaches the fishing skill. Observing an NPC perform a palm strike teaches that combat move. During battle, watching an enemy perform a belly slam lets Kliff learn and replicate the attack. Some skills cannot be learned from Abyss Artifacts alone and require NPC observation. This ties character progression directly to exploration and attentiveness.
Check every bounty poster. Lamp posts in towns carry bounty notices that sometimes reference characters from other games. Read the descriptions and examine the drawings.
Explore behind every waterfall. Look for stacked stones near the base. If they are present, use the Stab attack to enter. There are 43 hidden caves to find.
Walk into suspicious walls. If the Guiding Light highlights a wall but there is no interact prompt, try walking straight into it. Some walls dissolve on contact.
Watch NPCs closely. Standing near NPCs who perform unique actions can teach Kliff new skills. Pay attention to fishermen, fighters, and craftspeople.
Experiment with Blinding Flash outdoors. Try aiming it at different objects during daytime. Food, wooden structures, and hidden relics all react to the concentrated sunlight.
Read treasure map pieces carefully. Compare the hand-drawn image to the actual world map. The depicted landmarks usually match a specific vista or geographic feature.
Return to areas after unlocking traversal skills. Many Secret Places and hidden areas require Force Palm, Crow's Wing, or Triple Aerial Focus Palm to reach. Revisit earlier regions with new abilities.
Listen for rumors in settlements. NPCs in taverns and marketplaces sometimes mention hidden locations or secret quests. Following up on overheard conversations can lead to discoveries.
