Overview
Water Barrel is a personal weapons and ship fittings craft station in Windrose. It is an upgrade extender that snaps to both the Weaponsmith Workshop and the Shipwright's Workshop, used for quenching and tempering recipes on either base station.
Quenching and Tempering
The Water Barrel is the quench station of the forge. Where the Anvil and Bellows raise the working tier of a smithing station, the barrel unlocks the finishing recipes that call for cooling and tempering a worked piece. Those recipes show up on whichever base station claims the barrel, so a single barrel adds quench-finished output to both the weapon line and the ship-fitting line. Like every extender, it has no menu of its own: all unlocked recipes appear on the base station's craft list while the barrel sits inside its footprint.

Upgrade Path
Water Barrel is an upgrade extender that snaps to a Weaponsmith Workshop. Placing it inside the base station's extender footprint unlocks the recipes gated behind this extender on the base station's own craft list. It does not craft items on its own; the base station handles all recipes.
Placement Strategy
The Water Barrel is unique among extenders in the current build because the same placed object snaps to two different base stations. If the Weaponsmith Workshop or Shipwright's Workshop footprint overlaps the barrel, both stations read it as their extender and unlock quenching recipes. Ten Hardwood is the total build cost and there is no ingot or leather requirement, which makes the Water Barrel the cheapest Blacksmith extender by a wide margin.
Forge Layout
Because the barrel is dual-purpose, the most efficient forge puts the Weaponsmith Workshop and the Shipwright's Workshop close enough that one barrel sits inside both footprints. The Anvil and Bellows are the other forge extenders; the Bellows is the Mire Metal Ingot-gated late-game upgrade, while the Water Barrel and Anvil are reachable far earlier. Building all three around a shared forge means a single workshop can run the whole smithing tier list without you walking between separate stations.
Tips
Build a single Water Barrel in a shared forge building so both the Weaponsmith Workshop and Shipwright's Workshop can use it at the same time.
Hardwood comes from trees in Foothills and deeper biomes; Wood alone will not substitute.
The Water Barrel has no recipe menu of its own. All unlocked recipes appear on the base station's craft list while the barrel sits inside its footprint.
At ten Hardwood and nothing else, the barrel is cheap enough to be one of the first extenders you place in any new forge. There is no reason to delay it the way you might a Mire Metal Ingot-gated upgrade.
