Temple Dungeon is an alternate name commonly used for the Sealed Temple in the Foothills biome: the sealed ancient temple where the Israel Hands boss fight takes place. The "Temple Dungeon" phrasing shows up in community chatter and in quest-log text; both terms point at the same location and the same fight.

Why Two Names
Windrose's quest log labels the structure as an ancient temple, and the quest objective text sometimes calls it "the temple dungeon" when referring specifically to the interior boss arena as distinct from the approach. Community guides alternate between "Sealed Temple," "Foothills Temple," and "Temple Dungeon" depending on context. All three refer to the same POI with the same boss inside. This wiki uses Sealed Temple as the canonical page title and keeps the other names as reference pointers.
What to Do Here
The approach to the temple is a five-objective chain within Needle in a Haystack, including a naval engagement, multiple pirate-camp clears, and the indoor fight against Israel Hands. Full walkthroughs live on the quest page and the boss page. Briefly:
Clear the outer camps to acquire the Foothills Temple Key (looted from lieutenants in the camps).
Use the key at the sealed door to enter the temple interior.
Defeat Israel Hands in the back chamber. The fight is tuned for gear tier 9 to 10 and is one of the longer scripted engagements in the launch build.
Loot the ancient chest behind the arena. Possible rewards include Soul Eater, Charon's Obol, approximately 200 Undead Essence, and a 50 XP bonus.
Access and Key
Entry is gated by the Foothills Temple Key, which does not appear in any vendor stock. The key drops from the lieutenants in the pirate camps that ring the temple, so the practical route is to clear those outer camps first, collect the key, then use it on the sealed door. The whole approach is scripted as part of Needle in a Haystack, the Foothills main-story chain, so most players reach the door by simply following the quest objectives rather than hunting the key blind.
Enemies Inside
The interior is guarded on the way to the boss arena, and the fight itself is against Israel Hands, the resident Foothills boss. Israel Hands is a human duelist who chains fast saber combos with the occasional pistol shot, so the same crowd-control habits that work on Blackbeard crew apply here: bait the combo, dodge through it, and punish the recovery. Bring healing for a long fight; this is one of the longer scripted encounters in the launch build and is tuned for gear tier 9 to 10.
Rewards in Detail
Two reward sources sit at the end of the dungeon: the boss kill itself and the ancient chest tucked behind the arena. Clear both before leaving.
Source | Rewards |
|---|---|
Defeating Israel Hands | 50 XP, one Charon's Obol, and roughly 20 Undead Essence. |
Ancient chest behind the arena | The Soul Eater greatsword, a second Charon's Obol, approximately 200 Undead Essence, and a 50 XP bonus. |
The headline drop is the Soul Eater, an Epic two-handed sword and one of the strongest weapons available at this point in progression. It scales with Vitality and carries a life-drain active that you trigger with the weapon skill on a long cooldown, which makes it a strong pick for players who want a sustain-heavy frontline build. The Charon's Obol collected here is one of two the temple yields, and the Undead Essence is the ascension material used to push gear from this tier upward.
