The Abandoned Buccaneer Camp is a hand-crafted point of interest on the Windrose starting island. It sits west of the player's initial shipwreck spawn and functions as an early-game loot hub, a second Fast Travel Bell source, and a soft introduction to the game's puzzle-chest design. The "abandoned" framing hints at the instability the Buccaneers faction faces during the current story crisis.
Location and Approach
Sits on the west side of the starting island
A warehouse-style structure with side buildings and a short platforming section
Guarded by aggressive Boars that charge when provoked; approach with a melee weapon and some healing prepared
Chests and Loot Puzzles
Chest | Access Method | Contents |
|---|---|---|
Elevated chest | Requires jumping up nearby crates and stairs to reach a raised platform | One Tumbaga Ingot and a Sturdy Saber |
Hidden-button chest | Requires pressing a hidden button concealed under the stairs of the warehouse | One Tumbaga Ingot and plan / additional supplies |
Second Fast Travel Bell | Found on a workbench-style placement inside the camp | The player's second Fast Travel Bell, the key to the early-game teleportation network |
Why It Matters Early
The two Tumbaga Ingots from this camp are, for most players, the first ascension material they ever hold. They are the difference between hitting a Rare-tier wall at level 8 and being able to ascend the first Rare weapon (commonly the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts from the buried treasure trail) to Epic. The second Fast Travel Bell is almost as valuable because it lets the player anchor a quick warp point on the far side of the starting island and fast-travel between the shipwreck spawn and the camp without wasting stamina on the round trip.
The Hidden Button
The hidden-button chest is the game's first real puzzle. The button sits under the staircase on the south side of the warehouse; crouching below the stairs and interacting reveals it. Pressing the button unlocks a nearby locked container. Players who miss the button can still reach the elevated chest and the Fast Travel Bell, but they lose one of the two Tumbaga Ingots.
Story Framing
The camp's abandoned state is deliberate environmental storytelling. Buccaneer crews are scattered across the Caribbean during the game's crisis period, and the starting island's camp is one of several sites where the player can piece together what happened. Lore fragments left in the camp (letters, scattered supplies, a half-finished workbench) reinforce the broader Buccaneers and Brethren of the Coast story thread.
Strategy
Approach during the day; the boar aggression range is easier to read in daylight
Bring a Copper Pickaxe or better and enough supplies for a Bonfire in case the fight requires a rest before looting
Place the Fast Travel Bell back at your primary base first; the camp chest is where you acquire the bell, but it is not automatically placed
Return after gathering more Tumbaga from Blackbeard Treasure Maps or Traveller's Camp dig sites; the camp respawns enemies on a daily cadence but not its one-time chests
