The Lost Boots is the comic page in Exquemelin's Notes, the seven-piece Legendary lore set torn from the diary of Alexandre Exquemelin. The traveler lost both boots in a single day, one to a wolf, the other to a giant goat, and reflects bitterly on the cost.
In-Game Text
It began with a wolf latching onto my poor boot and tearing it straight off my foot. At least I managed to grab my sack and bolt before that fanged maw snapped shut on my calf.
The pack was far more interested in the smell of goat meat sizzling over the fire than in my rapidly retreating carcass, so I made it to the ruins and waited out the night under a roof, accompanied only by the disgruntled complaints of my empty stomach.
But no sooner had I, hungry and short on sleep, stepped beyond the ruins to gather ripe corn than an enormous goat set upon me. The wretched beast chased me across the entire field without pause, lunging again and again, intent on goring me.
I lost my second boot on the run and, without looking, plunged through the floor of yet another ruin. Only then did the goat finally lose interest, parting with a triumphant cry, as if the victory were its own.
My beloved boots are a bitter loss, I paid the buccaneers a whole handful of good, full-weight piastres for them.
While hauling myself out of the rubble, I shredded my hands and feet on thorns. They say crocodile leather makes fine boots, but with my luck, I've no business hunting crocodiles.
Naturally, I didn't go back for my things, though I did manage, out of habit, to stash a few items beneath the tree marked with a red cloth.
From the diary of Alexandre Exquemelin, traveler.
Lore Notes
This page is the lightest entry in the set, played for comedy rather than pirate history. It is Exquemelin's own account of a single miserable day rather than a tale about a famous captain, which sets it apart from sister pages like Twist of Fancy or Relative Cost. Two details connect it to the wider game. First, the traveler says he paid the Buccaneers a handful of full-weight Piastres for the boots, a nod to the faction economy players themselves trade in. Second, his offhand remark that crocodile leather makes fine boots points players toward hunting the swamp reptiles for Crocodile Hide Piece, a real leather-tier crafting material.
Like every page in the diary, the entry closes with Exquemelin mentioning gear stashed "beneath the tree marked with a red cloth." This recurring red-cloth line is the set's signature signal: players who spot such a tree in the world can search it for one of the chronicler's personal caches.

Where to Find
As one of the seven collectible pages, Lost Boots is found the same way as the rest of the set: looted from chests, tents, crates, and shelves in ruins and abandoned camps, and occasionally carried by roaming neutral travelers. It cannot be crafted or bought from a vendor. The drop documented below is one confirmed source; like the other pages it can also surface in similar containers across the archipelago.

Tips
At Legendary rarity each page sells for a respectable Piastre sum. If you are only after a complete reading copy of the set, hold one of each page and sell duplicates rather than letting them fill your stash.
The cornfield-and-ruins setting in the text mirrors real overland hazards: wolf packs and the aggressive Goat Leader variant both roam the islands, so reading the page is also a light warning about gathering corn far from camp.
