Starsand Island features an affection-based relationship system tracked in points. All 15 romanceable characters (plus non-romanceable NPCs like Gust and Ginger) can be befriended, with progress viewable through the Social app on your in-game phone. The game is gender-inclusive — you can romance any character regardless of your chosen gender.
Daily conversation: +5 (once per day per NPC)
Neutral gift: +5
Liked gift: +10
Loved/Favorite gift: +15
Disliked gift: +0
Hated gift: +0
Returning a lost item: +20
Bulletin Board request: +15 to +25
Quest completion: +50
You can give one gift per day per NPC, making gift selection critical for efficient progression. See the gift guide for every character's loved, liked, disliked, and hated gifts.
Affection points accumulate toward five heart levels, each unlocking new features:
The NPC begins gifting you during daily interactions. Small items or snacks appear as tokens of friendship.
You can take photos together using a dedicated photo interaction. Photos are saved to your Album.
Access to the NPC's private room or bedroom. Inside, you will find a special treasure chest containing exclusive decor related to that character. A second chest refreshes weekly with items you have collected. Shared outings also unlock — these are unique activities specific to each character's personality:
Youfang: Reading together at the temple.
Neona: Bike rides around the island.
Loren: Binge-watching TV at the arcade.
Other characters: Backyard swings, hot springs visits, and more.
Unlocks character-specific Bulletin Board requests. Each NPC requests items related to their personality: Zephyria asks for Moonlit Forest items, Delphin provides fish-related rewards, and so on.
You can ask the character to move in with you at Hopeland. Gust and Ginger are capped at 4 hearts since they are non-romanceable crossover characters.
Once a romanceable character moves in at Heart Level 5:
They come home after finishing their daily activities.
They help around the farm — clearing debris, petting animals, and watering crops.
They will follow you around the map if asked.
They sleep at home if you place an extra bed (they tend to arrive after you go to sleep and leave in the morning).
Memory system: NPCs remember your habits, conversations, gifts, and invitations. How you interact shapes future dialogue.
Dynamic dialogue: Every conversation and gift creates shared memories unique to your playthrough.
Signature interactions: Each character has unique activities reflecting their personality.
NPC initiative: NPCs reach out to you, show care, ask for help, and give gifts back, making relationships feel two-directional.
Starsand Island uses a "Cohabitation and Dynamic Romance" system instead of traditional marriage. There is no wedding ceremony or marriage mechanic. The developers have discussed adding a child-raising system in future updates, but it is not yet implemented in Early Access.
Always talk to NPCs you are targeting daily (+5 free points).
Give a Loved/Favorite gift every day for +15 points. See the gift guide for each character's preferences.
Complete Bulletin Board requests for +15 to +25 points on top of daily gifts.
Quests give the biggest single boost (+50 points) — prioritize profession quests involving your target NPC.
Focus on 2–3 characters at a time. Spreading gifts across all 15 romanceable characters slows progress dramatically.
At Heart Level 3, remember to visit the NPC's room for the exclusive treasure chest — it refreshes weekly.
Reaching Level 5 (750 points) takes approximately 50 days if you give a Loved gift and talk daily (+20/day). Quests and Bulletin Board requests speed this up significantly.
