Moonlit Forest Spirit Locations overview
The Moonlit Forest contains 11 Gravemite spirits (also called Gravestars) hidden across four major zones. These spirits are found by smashing orange glowing rocks called Gravecrystals with your pickaxe. Collecting 3 Gravestars from a zone unlocks sealed doors and progression through the forest. Finding all spirits is required to fully explore the Moonlit Forest and access the Waterwheel repair that unlocks additional endgame zones. This guide covers every spirit location with step-by-step navigation, the enemies you will face, and the rewards for each set.
How spirits work
Find an orange glowing Gravecrystal rock in the environment
Smash it with your pickaxe to release a Gravestar spirit
The Gravestar automatically adds to your collection for that zone
Once you have 3 Gravestars from a zone, the sealed door for that area opens
Progress to the next zone and repeat
Gravecrystals look like regular rocks but have a distinct orange glow. They do not respawn. Each is a one-time collection.
Zone progression
The Moonlit Forest follows a linear progression through increasingly dangerous zones:
Zone | Spirits | Key Enemies | Key Resources |
|---|---|---|---|
Evernight Forest | (Entry zone. No spirits) | Low-level corrupted creatures | Copper, Midnight Herbs, Softwood |
Gate of Life | 3 spirits | Runebird (elite) | Copper, Tin, Quartz, Fluorite |
Dreamfall Garden | (Boss zone) | Crystalith (boss) | Iron (upper area), Copper |
Crystalith Hideout | 3 spirits | Mid-tier corrupted creatures | Fluorite, Gold (near doorway) |
Azure Bay | (Transition zone) | Luminfrog | Moonflower, Mirthshroom |
Mural Valley | 3 spirits | Tougher corrupted creatures | Sleep Lilies, Coal, Gold, Oilstone |
Harvest Yard | 2 spirits + Waterwheel | Glintortle (boss) | Fluffweave, advanced ores |
Grain Haven | (Post-Waterwheel) | High-tier enemies | Diamond, Flamecore Ore, Gold |
Set 1: Gate of Life (3 spirits)
The Gate of Life is the first zone with Gravecrystals. Reach it by following the main path from Evernight Forest. Repair the campsite here with 5x Fluorite for a safe rest point.
Spirit 1
From the Gate of Life campsite, head northwest along the wall. Look for a narrow passage between two large rocks. The Gravecrystal is tucked in an alcove on the left side, partially hidden behind a fallen tree trunk. It has a faint orange glow.
Spirit 2
Continue past the first spirit and follow the left wall until you reach the Runebird clearing. The Gravecrystal is on the far side of this clearing, against the rock wall. You will likely need to fight or dodge the Runebird elite mob to reach it. The Runebird attacks with swooping dives, so run in circles to dodge and fire slingshot shots between attacks.
Spirit 3
From the Runebird clearing, take the right path toward the large sealed door. The third Gravecrystal is directly in front of the sealed door, slightly to the left side. It is the most visible of the three.
Gate of Life reward
Collecting all 3 spirits opens the sealed door leading to Dreamfall Garden, where the Crystalith boss awaits. Ensure you have 50+ Blast Pellets before proceeding.
Set 2: Crystalith Hideout (3 spirits)
After defeating the Crystalith boss in Dreamfall Garden, you enter Crystalith Hideout. This zone has gold veins near the main doorway and is a good gold farming spot.
Spirit 4
From the Crystalith Hideout entrance, head straight ahead past the tent. Look to the right side of the main path. The Gravecrystal is behind a cluster of glowing mushrooms near the wall.
Spirit 5
Take the left fork in the path. Follow it until you reach a small cliff overlooking a lower area. The Gravecrystal is at the edge of the cliff, visible by its orange glow against the darker rock.
Spirit 6
Backtrack to the main path and continue forward. The third Gravecrystal in this set is near the exit doorway leading to Azure Bay, on the left wall. Look for it among the crystal formations that line the corridor.
Crystalith Hideout reward
Collecting all 3 spirits unlocks the passage to Azure Bay, a transition zone with two branching paths (upper leads to Mural Valley, lower to Harvest Yard).
Set 3: Mural Valley (3 spirits)
Mural Valley is accessed via the upper path from Azure Bay. This zone features a locked gate that requires destroying vine barriers. Resources include Sleep Lilies (all three colors), Coal, Lotus Leaves, Gold, and Oilstone.
Spirit 7
After entering Mural Valley, follow the path past the vine barrier. The first Gravecrystal is on a raised ledge to the right of the main path, overlooking the valley floor. You need to climb a short rock formation to reach it.
Spirit 8
Continue deeper into the valley. Look for a bubble bridge crossing over a gap. The Gravecrystal is in a cave underneath this bridge. Drop down carefully (there is a safe ledge) to find the cave with the spirit and Oilstone ore deposits.
Spirit 9
The final Mural Valley spirit is near the exit toward the Waterwheel area. Look along the right wall as you approach the large mural carving that gives this zone its name. The Gravecrystal is at the base of the mural.
Mural Valley reward
All 3 spirits open the path to the Waterwheel area, connecting to the Harvest Yard zone.
Set 4: Harvest Yard (2 spirits + Waterwheel)
Harvest Yard is the deepest accessible spirit zone. It contains the Waterwheel repair site and is the gateway to endgame areas. Repair the campsite with 5x Fluorite. The Glintortle boss patrols this area. Bring Bomb Arrows and Sentry Bots.
Spirit 10
From the Harvest Yard campsite, head south along the main path. The Gravecrystal is partially obscured by tall grass near a resource node. Listen for the faint humming sound that all Gravecrystals emit. It gets louder as you approach.
Spirit 11
The final spirit is near the Waterwheel structure itself. Approach the broken Waterwheel and look to the left side of the mechanism. The Gravecrystal is embedded in the rock wall next to the Waterwheel housing.
Waterwheel repair
After collecting both Harvest Yard spirits, you can repair the Waterwheel. This requires:
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
Hardwood Plank | 10 | Processed from Hardwood at Cutter |
Iron Ingot | 8 | Smelted from Iron Ore at Furnace II |
Copper Wire | 5 | Crafted from Copper Ingot |
Fluorite | 3 | Mined from Moonlit Forest deposits |
Repairing the Waterwheel opens access to Grain Haven and deeper endgame zones, including areas with Diamond, Flamecore Ore, and the remaining bosses (The Corrupted and Ruin Guard).
Enemies by zone
Enemy | Zone | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
Runebird | Gate of Life, Evernight Forest | First elite mob. Swooping dive attacks. Run in circles to dodge, fire slingshot between attacks. |
Luminfrog | Dreamfall Garden, Azure Bay | Ground-based. Takes ~5 slingshot hits. Move away to dodge its lunges. |
Corrupted creatures | All zones (increasing difficulty) | Generic enemies that scale in HP and damage deeper into the forest. Use ranged attacks. |
Boss encounters (summary)
For full boss strategies, see the weapons and ammo guide. Key encounters:
Crystalith (Dreamfall Garden): Golem boss. Target glowing stomach during repower phase. Use Charged Blast Pellets.
Glintortle (Harvest Yard area): Turtle boss. Slingshot is ineffective. Must use Bow + Bomb Arrows. Hit shell crystals when glowing blue.
The Corrupted (Astral Gate, post-Waterwheel): Requires Fire Arrows for environmental puzzles. Do not retreat or it resets health.
Ruin Guard (Final boss): Target head weak spot. Dump charged Bomb Arrows when it drops its head.
Preparation checklist
Craft 50+ ammo before entering (Stone Ammo for early zones, Bomb Arrows for bosses)
Bring 5+ Fluorite for camp repairs (each campsite costs 5 Fluorite)
Buy Sentry Bots from the Exploration Club (190 coins each, 10/day)
Eat a Battle Spirit or Forest's Gift buff food before entering
Carry Hot Spring Tickets or high-energy food for stamina recovery
Stump Stools found throughout the forest provide free stamina recovery when sat upon
Tips
Gravecrystals emit a faint humming sound. Turn up your audio and listen for it when searching
All resources in the Moonlit Forest regenerate daily. You can make farming runs for ores and herbs without needing to find new deposits
Repair campsites as you encounter them. They serve as respawn points if you die
The Moonlit Forest is linear but has hidden side paths. Explore walls and ledges for resource nodes and treasure chests
You can exit and re-enter the forest freely. Gravecrystal progress is saved permanently
Bring a Machete for clearing vine barriers that block alternate paths
