Overview
Beyond crafting, building, and exploration, Outbound includes a selection of leisure activities. Many were funded as Kickstarter stretch goals during the campaign that raised EUR 265,679 from 5,197 backers. These activities reflect the game's cozy identity: they exist for relaxation, atmosphere, and variety rather than as progression requirements.
Stretch Goal Activities
Activity | Stretch Goal | Description |
|---|---|---|
Goal #4 | Catch fish to display and log; planned as a free Summer update, not in the 1.0 build | |
Goal #5 | Manage bee colonies in beehives to produce honey for cooking and crafting | |
Goal #3 (Cozy Kites) | Craft and fly kites in windy areas; purely atmospheric | |
Goal #2 | Set up bonfires, lanterns, seating, and decorations outside the van | |
Tire Inflation | Goal #8 (More Mini Games) | Vehicle maintenance as a light interactive activity |
Fishing
Fishing is not in the 1.0 launch build. The studio has confirmed it as the headline feature of the free Summer update (version 1.1), where players will catch fish with a crafted rod at water bodies across the biomes. One key design point: the fish are decorative collectibles, displayed in fish tanks and tracked in a journal rather than used as food. This was one of the most requested additions during the Kickstarter campaign. See the post-launch roadmap for the full update plan.

Beekeeping
Beekeeping is a colony-management activity. Players catch bees in the wild and house them in beehives crafted from resources. Healthy colonies produce honey over time. Placement near flowering plants improves production. Honey is a cooking ingredient and crafting material.
Kite Flying
Kite flying lets players craft kites and fly them in open areas. Wind and weather conditions affect kite behavior. It has no progression benefit and exists purely for atmosphere and relaxation.
Camping
When the van is parked, players can set up bonfires, outdoor seating, lanterns, and other decorations around the parking spot. Camping creates atmosphere at rest points and provides gathering spots in multiplayer sessions. This was the second stretch goal unlocked during the campaign.
Vehicle Maintenance
Tire inflation and other van maintenance tasks function as light interactive activities. They keep the camper van in working order while providing a tactile change of pace from exploration and building.
