The December 2025 Update (version 0.5.0) launched on December 23, 2025, closing out inZOI's first year of Early Access with one of its most ambitious content drops. The headline feature was a full business management system that lets players own and operate their own establishments. Alongside businesses came a winter-themed Holiday Festival, a new multitasking system, expanded crime mechanics, and two new skills: Baking and Drink Mixing. The update also introduced group actions, letting Zois coordinate activities together for the first time.
The business system is the defining feature of v0.5.0. Players can now purchase, build, and run their own businesses on commercial lots. Each business type has its own gameplay loop, staff requirements, and customer interactions. The available business types at launch are:
Cafe: Serves coffee and light snacks. Relies on the Cooking and Barista skills.
Bakery: Specializes in baked goods and pastries. Tied to the new Baking skill.
Restaurant: Full-service dining with a broader menu. Requires skilled Cooking staff.
Bar: Serves cocktails and beverages. Uses the new Drink Mixing skill.
Florist Shop: Sells flower arrangements and bouquets. Connects to the gardening system.
Confectionery: Candy and sweets shop. Combines Baking and Cooking for specialty items.
Gym: Fitness center where customers work out. Ties into the fitness system.
School: Educational facility. A unique business type focused on teaching and skill development.
Open Lot: A flexible commercial space that can be customized for mixed-use purposes.
To start a business, players purchase a commercial lot and select the business type. They then furnish and decorate the space using Build Mode, hire staff (either household members or NPC employees), set prices, and open for customers. Daily operations involve managing inventory, keeping staff happy, handling customer complaints, and making strategic decisions about hours, pricing, and expansion.
Each business has a rank that starts at the lowest tier and improves over time. Rank progression is driven by customer satisfaction, revenue, staff performance, and consistent operation. Higher ranks unlock new features: premium menu items, larger customer capacity, better equipment, and special events. A well-managed business at a high rank generates substantial Meow income and becomes a significant part of the household's daily routine.
Business rank can also decline if the establishment is neglected. Dirty premises, rude staff, long wait times, and stockouts all hurt customer satisfaction and drag the rank down. Players need to stay engaged with their business to maintain its reputation.
The Holiday Festival is a winter and year-end seasonal event, similar in structure to the Halloween event from v0.4.0. During the festival period, themed booths appear in public areas where Zois can browse holiday goods, buy gifts, and participate in seasonal activities. Key features include:
Gift giving: Zois can purchase wrapped gifts from festival booths and give them to friends, family, and romantic partners. Gifts boost relationships and trigger special thank-you interactions.
Holiday decorations: Seasonal decor items become available in Build Mode, including wreaths, string lights, and festive table settings.
Festival booths: Temporary vendor stalls sell exclusive holiday-themed items not available in the regular catalog.
Winter activities: Themed social interactions and group activities tied to the season, including holiday parties and communal celebrations.
Before v0.5.0, Zois could only perform one activity at a time. The multitasking system changes that by allowing Zois to combine compatible actions. For example, a Zoi can eat a meal while watching TV, or browse their phone while sitting on a park bench. Not all actions are compatible; physically demanding or attention-intensive tasks still require full focus.
Group actions are a related addition. Multiple Zois can now coordinate activities together: exercising as a group at the gym, cooking a meal collaboratively, or cleaning the house as a team. Group actions are more efficient than solo actions and provide relationship bonuses to all participants. This makes household management smoother and social interactions more dynamic.
The commerce system underpins the business management features. It introduces a full buy-and-sell economy for goods and services. Business owners purchase raw materials (ingredients, flowers, supplies) from wholesale sources, process them using the relevant skill, and sell finished products to customers at a markup. Prices are adjustable, and customer demand fluctuates based on location, time of day, and competition from other businesses in the area.
The commerce system also extends beyond player-owned businesses. Zois can sell homegrown produce from their farming plots, fish caught through fishing, and crafted goods. This creates a cohesive economic loop where skills translate directly into income.
The December update expanded the crime system with new criminal activities and their consequences. Players whose Zois engage in theft, vandalism, or other illegal actions now face a more developed system of detection, pursuit, and punishment. The specifics include new criminal interaction options, a reputation system that tracks a Zoi's criminal history, and escalating consequences for repeat offenders. Law enforcement NPCs respond to crimes in progress, and getting caught carries real penalties including fines and restricted access to certain locations.
The Baking skill is separate from the existing Cooking skill and focuses specifically on oven-based desserts and pastries. Recipes include cakes, cookies, pies, bread, croissants, and other baked goods. As the skill levels up, Zois unlock more complex recipes with better quality ratings and higher sale value. Baking is essential for running a Bakery or Confectionery business, and baked goods can also be consumed at home, given as gifts, or sold through the commerce system.
The Drink Mixing skill covers cocktails, mocktails, smoothies, and specialty beverages. It is the primary skill required for running a Bar business. At lower levels, Zois prepare basic drinks with occasional spills and mistakes. Higher levels unlock elaborate cocktail recipes, flair bartending animations, and premium drink options that command higher prices. Drink Mixing also has social applications: mixing drinks at home for parties and gatherings improves the mood and social energy of attendees.
