inZOI gives players two distinct ways to design original furniture from scratch. The Custom Furniture tool lets you pick and combine parts from different preset models to assemble a new piece, while the 3D Printer converts any uploaded image into a decorative 3D object. Both features live under the Craft tab in Build Mode, which is the fourth and final tab on the left side of the screen. Custom furniture pieces are fully functional (Zois can sit on chairs, use desks, and so on), whereas 3D-printed objects serve as decorations and cannot be interacted with. There is no limit to the number of custom items you can create.
To begin creating custom furniture, open Build Mode on any residential lot. The Craft tab is the fourth icon on the left-side menu. Selecting it reveals two options:
Custom Furniture lets you assemble new furniture from preset in-game parts.
3D Printer generates objects from uploaded images using on-device AI.
Click Custom Furniture to enter the creation screen. A row of furniture categories appears along the bottom. Choose a category, pick a base model, swap individual components to your liking, and press OK to confirm. The finished piece is saved to your Craft inventory and can be placed anywhere on your property.
During Early Access, four furniture categories are available for custom creation. Each category breaks the item into swappable components, so you can mix parts across different visual styles.
Category | Customizable Parts | Examples |
|---|---|---|
Computer Chair | Backrest, Legs | Pair a sleek gamer-chair backrest with wooden dining-chair legs, or combine an office-style backrest with modern metal legs. |
Computer Desk | Tabletop, Legs | Swap between wide gaming desktops and compact study surfaces, then choose leg styles independently. |
Floor Lamp | Body, Base | Combine a tall modern lamp body with a classic weighted base, or mix minimalist shades with industrial stands. |
Computer | Monitor, Main Body, Keyboard and Mouse | Build your dream gaming PC by selecting monitor size, tower style, and peripheral set separately. |
All custom furniture is fully functional. Zois can sit on custom chairs, work at custom desks, use custom computers, and benefit from custom lighting just like any standard furniture item.
The core idea behind custom furniture is combining parts from different preset styles. When you select a category, the creation screen displays every available variation for each component slot. You scroll through the options and pick one per slot. Because each slot is independent, the total number of unique combinations grows quickly. For example, if computer chairs offer eight backrest styles and six leg styles, that yields 48 possible chair designs before you even touch colors or textures.
A few tips for effective part mixing:
Preview the assembled piece in the creation screen before confirming. Some combinations look better than others.
Pay attention to proportions. A very tall backrest on very short legs can produce an odd silhouette.
Consider the room's existing style. Mixing one modern element into an otherwise traditional set can create a nice accent piece.
After creating and placing a custom furniture item on your lot, you can further customize its appearance. Click the placed object while still in Build Mode to open the customization panel. From here you can adjust:
Color: Change the color of individual surfaces and components.
Material: Switch between different surface materials such as wood, metal, fabric, and plastic.
Gloss: Control how shiny or matte the surface appears.
Pattern Scale: Resize repeating patterns applied to the item.
Effects: Apply additional visual effects to the surface.
You can also upload your own image files to use as custom textures. This works for nearly every placeable item in the game, not just custom furniture. Supported formats include JPEG and PNG.
inZOI includes an AI Texture feature that generates custom patterns and images from text prompts. Instead of uploading an image file, you type a description of the texture you want, and the game's on-device generative AI creates a matching pattern. This works for both furniture surfaces and clothing.
The AI texture system runs locally on your machine rather than through an external server. Generated textures can be applied to any customizable surface, giving you a way to create truly unique looks without needing external image-editing software. If the first result does not match what you had in mind, you can regenerate for a different variation.
The 3D Printer is the second feature under the Craft tab. It uses AI to convert a flat 2D image into a three-dimensional object that can be placed as a decoration in your home. The 3D Printer itself costs 628 Meows to purchase in Build Mode, and each printed object costs an additional 100 Meows to produce.
Open Build Mode and select the Craft tab.
Choose the 3D Printer option.
Upload an image from your computer.
Wait roughly 20 seconds while the AI processes the image.
Use the axis bars to adjust your object: X controls size, Y moves it left and right, Z moves it up and down.
Click Next to confirm and place the item on the printer desk.
You can regenerate the result if the first attempt does not look right. Enable Symmetry Mode before generating to produce perfectly balanced objects with uniform curves and alignment.
Tip | Details |
|---|---|
Use a plain background | Solid-color, green-screen, or transparent backgrounds help the AI isolate the object cleanly. |
Choose the right format | JPEGs work well for fully 3D objects with depth. PNGs with transparent backgrounds are better for flat items like shields or signs. |
Keep it simple | The AI handles simpler shapes more accurately. Intricate designs with fine details may not translate well. |
Avoid holes in the object | The AI tends to fill holes with background material, producing unwanted artifacts. |
Watch for lighting | Avoid images with glare or direct sunlight, as these introduce visual noise into the model. |
Consider orientation | Rotate the object in the image so it matches how you want it to appear in-game (lying flat, standing upright, etc.). |
3D-printed objects are strictly decorative. You can feed the printer a picture of a chair, but the resulting object will not be sittable. Zois cannot interact with printed items the way they do with standard or custom furniture. For functional pieces, use the Custom Furniture tool instead.
Printed objects can also become wearable accessories for your Zois. To do this, open the Craft tab and select the craft clothes menu, then choose 3D Printed Decorations. The screen will show attachment points on your character's body. Select a spot and pick from any 3D-printed object you have already created to wear it as an accessory.
Outside of Build Mode, Zois can craft furniture during regular gameplay using the Furniture Workbench. This is a purchasable object (buy it through Build Mode) that your Zoi physically interacts with to produce items. Crafting at the workbench raises the Housework skill, which governs home management activities like cleaning, laundry, electronics repair, and furniture refurbishing.
Items crafted at the Furniture Workbench can be placed in your home as functional furniture or sold for Meows, making it a viable way to earn money without holding a traditional job.
The Housework skill levels up through several activities beyond workbench crafting:
Activity | Details |
|---|---|
Cleaning | Use mops, brooms, and vacuums around the house. Doing laundry also counts. |
Electronics Repair | Fix broken computers, TVs, and other appliances instead of paying 100 Meows for a technician. |
Furniture Crafting | Use the Furniture Workbench to build custom items. |
Refurbishing | Unlocked at Housework level 2. Click deteriorating furniture and select Refurbish to restore it (costs Meows). |
Keep your Zoi's needs in good shape before crafting or cleaning. A hungry or uncomfortable Zoi will not progress the skill effectively.
Note that the Furniture Workbench is separate from the Crafting Table, which raises the Handiwork skill instead. Handiwork focuses on crafting tools and jewelry from raw materials, while Housework covers broader home management tasks.
Furniture deteriorates over time as Zois use it. Objects used frequently break down faster. A messy or damaged environment can make Zois uncomfortable or even sick. Once you reach Housework level 2, you can restore worn items by clicking on them and selecting the Refurbish interaction. Refurbishing costs Meows, with the price varying based on the item and its damage level.
Not every piece of furniture supports refurbishing. Couches, sofas, and countertops can be refurbished, but some chairs, tables, small decorative items, and electronics like refrigerators cannot. Refurbishing is the only way to restore deteriorating objects; you cannot simply replace them with new copies.
Canvas is inZOI's integrated community platform where players upload and download custom creations. Both custom furniture presets and 3D-printed objects can be shared. To upload a custom item to Canvas:
Place the item on your lot.
Click the placed item in Build Mode.
Select the Save Furniture Preset icon.
Adjust the thumbnail, enter a name and description.
Click Upload to Canvas.
Other players can then browse, download, and place your creation directly into their own games. Canvas also supports following creators, liking items, and browsing trending designs.
Use the Custom Furniture tool for functional items (chairs, desks, computers, lamps) and the 3D Printer for purely decorative pieces.
Place furniture before customizing colors and textures. The full customization panel only appears after the item is on the lot.
The AI texture generator works entirely on-device, so results depend on your hardware. If generation is slow, try simpler prompts.
Upload high-contrast images to the 3D Printer for cleaner results. Transparent-background PNGs produce the best flat items.
Enable Symmetry Mode in the 3D Printer when creating vases, bowls, or other symmetrical objects for a more polished look.
Craft furniture at the workbench to level Housework. Once you reach level 2, you can refurbish worn items throughout your home.
Sell workbench-crafted furniture for extra Meows if you need income without taking a job.
Save your best creations to Canvas so the community can enjoy them too.
