Renown
September 23, 2026 at 07:17 AM
Added Renown sources and amounts from the retail game (subquests, paralogues, audiences with the gods, route quests), theater and thermae unlock levels, confirmed exam and recruitment thresholds; reworded open questions
Renown is a standing level that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave tracks for the player rather than for any one unit. It is not a currency you spend. It is a threshold the game checks in at least three separate places, which is what makes it worth its own page: a party can be strong enough for a fight and still be turned away from a certification exam, a recruit, or a road, because the number behind the player's name is too low.
Renown rises through main missions, subquests, paralogues and a handful of smaller events. Most of those sit in the between-match routine or in optional fights rather than in the main battles, so a large share of Renown accrues while you are preparing for the next opponent.
Source | Detail |
|---|---|
Story progress | Clearing chapters on a route raises it. |
Quests | Completed quests pay out gold and Renown together. Part I subquests pay up to 200 Renown each, most of them between 30 and 100. |
Helping townsfolk | Errands and requests around Dagsion count toward it. |
The Adventure Guide | A hint track presented by Anna that explains the game systems and pays Renown for engaging with them. |
Main missions | Clearing each chapter's main mission raises it. |
Paralogues | Each of the nine Part I paralogues pays 150 Renown along with 20,000 gold and an item. |
Audiences with the gods | When a shrine icon on Temple Row is coloured in on the map screen, the god can be visited for a short conversation that grants some Renown. It does not cost a turn. |
Route quests | Leda's Perform Quests pay around 180 to 200 Renown each, Theodora's Send Supplies quests and Dietrich's Dread Warrior Challenges also pay gold and Renown. |
The clearest gate is on reclassing. Pre-launch readings of the exam screens put the unlock for Specialty-tier exams at Renown level 4, and a walkthrough written from the retail game gives the same requirement: Renown 4, character level 20 and the class's weapon-rank grades. Every Advanced-tier class shown before launch listed Renown level 8 alongside a recommended character level of 35 and the individual weapon-rank letters, and a class guide written after launch gives the same Renown 8. As of September 2026 this wiki has not confirmed a Renown requirement for the Beginner tier, which is where most of the cast starts. Certification Exams sets out the letter grades themselves.
Recruiting a character outside the story runs on two bars at once: a support level between that character and the route's Hero, raised through gifts and shared meals, and a Renown level. Recruitment covers the method. Individual characters set their own minimums, and the requirements change from route to route. The figures below were first read off a pre-launch build; a recruitment guide written from the retail game has since listed every character's requirements route by route, and each pair matches one of its routes. Across that guide, Renown requirements run from 3 to 10.
Character | Support Level | Renown Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
2 | 3 | Dietrich's route. The lowest pair recorded | |
1 | 4 | Cai's route | |
3 | 5 | Theodora's and Leda's routes | |
3 | 6 | Dietrich's route | |
3 | 8 | Dietrich's route. The worked example used in the recruitment segment | |
3 | 10 | Leda's route. The steepest figure recorded, and described as such | |
3 | 7 or 9 | Renown 9 on Cai's and Dietrich's routes and 7 on Leda's; she joins automatically on Theodora's |
Renown reaches outside the city as well. Some checkpoints on the world map refuse passage while the level is too low, and the Urkulu Stronghold is the named example of a location gated that way. That makes Renown a soft progression lock on exploration as well as on units.
Reviews of the finished game describe the same pattern at a larger scale, with whole regions and paths opening up as Renown rises from story progress and side quests.
Renown also opens parts of the capital. The theater unlocks at Renown 7 and the thermae at Renown 8, each introduced by a tutorial quest on the bulletin board the first time through. Which of Dietrich's Dread Warrior Challenges are on offer depends on Renown as well, and some of Leda's drink recipe quests at the tavern ask for Renown 3, 6 or 8 before they can be turned in.
As of September 2026 this wiki has not confirmed a Renown cap (the highest requirement on record is 10), or whether the level carries between the four routes the way support levels and temple Bless Levels do. The retail recruitment guide calls Renown a global value without saying whether that means across routes, so the question is left open here. No official presentation, press release or system explainer covers either point, and the exact Renown paid by main missions has not been collected on this wiki.
