The Obelisk Chamber is a hidden room beneath the temple of Fortuna in Dagsion, and it is the mechanism the whole plot of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave runs through. It is where the year 1454 touches the year 1449. Fortuna names it herself in dialogue, and she is the one who prepared it.
Origin
Fortuna states that the chamber was made at the progenitor god's request, in case disaster ever came to the land. Sothis is that god, and the disaster is Balor's conquest of Dagda. The room therefore predates the crisis it answers: it was built as a contingency and sat unused beneath a working temple until it was needed. Dagdan Pantheon covers the temple row it hides under.
What It Does
The chamber is where Eshmel is sent back. Fortuna's power over causality is the engine, and Fortuna's Blessing is the same power applied at the scale of a single battle rather than a single lifetime. Story and Plot Structure covers the sequence: Sothis calls a soul down into the ruined present, Fortuna sends it back to the Heroic Games, and the four Heroes' pasts are altered from there.
The Four Obelisks
The room holds four obelisks, one for each of the warriors who fought at the Heroic Games. Touching one reaches into that warrior's past and opens their campaign, which makes the chamber the place a route is chosen rather than a place a route passes through. Because the chamber sits in 1454, the choice is made in the present while the campaigns themselves run in 1449. Routes covers what each of the four branches contains and how they fit together.
That is a different job from the one the Pale Raven's Perch does. The Perch sits inside the past and is where the player swaps between Heroes during a run. The chamber is where the four are opened from in the first place, and where the present-day party is based between them.
As a Hub
In the 1454 present the chamber doubles as the party's base. Both named members of the Promised One's Army besides Eshmel were pulled out of the ruins of Dagsion and can be spoken to there afterwards: Hong Hua and Troy. That makes the chamber the counterpart of the Pale Raven's Perch, which serves the same role for the past.
In the finished game the chamber is the home base for the whole game, and every path in every Part is entered from it. Part 2 opens from a separate Strife Obelisk, and Part 3 through the Door of Destiny, which can be taken at any time but is only worth taking once at least one Hero has finished their War Arc. One guide describes reaching the chamber by talking to the Pale Raven in Dagsion once a route reaches Chapter 4.
The Shrine of Causality keeps a memories list of story events. A few Prologue entries stay empty until the Prologue is replayed on a Clear Save after the credits, which unlocks two extra scenes about Fortuna's plan.
Descend Again
An option called Descend Again was first reported from hands-on coverage of a pre-launch build; guides to the finished game place it on the title screen, available once the game has been saved in the chamber. Walkthroughs of the finished game describe the same function as replaying the Prologue: it can be used at any time to change the difficulty setting, the Casual or Classic setting, or Eshmel's appearance, without losing progress on any route, at the cost of playing the two Prologue battles again.
What It Does | Detail |
|---|---|
Replays the prologue | The opening sequence runs again. |
Creates a new Eshmel | Body type, appearance and name can be chosen again. |
Keeps route progress | Progress on the four Heroes is carried over. |
Changes difficulty | The setting can be altered at the same time. |
Changes Casual or Classic | The permadeath setting can be changed the same way. |
The game uses a single save file. Completed routes can be replayed chapter by chapter through Replay from Any Chapter, so a new save is only needed to start from scratch; see Routes.
Open Questions
The difficulty question is settled: there are two settings, Normal and Hard. There are two ways to change them. The Change Difficulty option at the Shrine of Causality can lower the setting but not raise it; replaying the Prologue through Descend Again changes the difficulty in either direction and the Casual or Classic setting as well. This wiki has not yet documented the chamber's full layout as of September 2026.
