Shield Toss is one of Damiane's default skills, available as soon as she becomes playable at the start of Chapter 3. No Abyss Artifacts are required to unlock the base version. The skill can be upgraded to a maximum of Level 3 by investing additional Abyss Artifacts, with each level unlocking a new sub-skill in the Shield Toss progression chain.
Shield Toss causes Damiane to throw her shield at enemies as a ranged projectile. The shield strikes the target and returns to Damiane after impact, allowing for continuous use without needing to retrieve it. At base level, the shield hits a single target before bouncing back.
As you invest in Shield Toss upgrades, the shield gains the ability to bounce between multiple enemies, turning it into a powerful crowd-control tool. At Level 2, Shield Toss Proficiency allows the shield to bounce off enemies and hit additional targets. At Level 3, Shield Toss Expertise increases the bounce count to 7, making it devastating against clustered enemy groups.
Shield Toss (Base): Throw your shield at an enemy. It strikes and returns. Unlocked by default. Controls: L1 + R1 / LB + RB.

Shield Toss gives Damiane reliable ranged damage without spending ammunition. Use it to soften up enemies before closing in with her rapier attacks.
At Level 2 and above, throw the shield into clusters of enemies to hit as many targets as possible with a single toss.
The bouncing mechanic at higher levels makes Shield Toss particularly effective during large-scale encounters and camp defense missions.
Combine Shield Toss with Damiane's Quick Reload and firearm skills for a versatile ranged playstyle.
In boss fights, Shield Toss offers safe chip damage during windows when melee engagement would be too risky.
Shield Toss costs Spirit rather than Stamina, so it does not compete with Damiane's melee attacks for resources. Enter Focus mode to regenerate Spirit between throws. At Expertise level, the shield bounces up to 7 times, which can clear entire groups of weak enemies in a single throw.
Invest in Shield Toss early to unlock its full progression chain.
Keep an eye on your Stamina bar when using this skill repeatedly; running out mid-combo leaves you vulnerable.
Shield Toss and Scattershot both received a meaningful upgrade in the latest gameplay update. Both abilities now match the utility profile of Force Palm: they push enemies back on hit and they can break the same destructible walls that Force Palm could already shatter.
This matters for two reasons. First, in combat, you now have a viable knockback option from a ranged shield throw without needing to swap to Force Palm at the right moment. Second, in exploration and abyss puzzles, Shield Toss and Scattershot become valid alternatives for breaking walls and triggering attachment points. If you favor a shield-or-bow loadout over melee Force Palm setups, your ability to interact with the world's destructible elements is no longer gated to a single skill.
