Overview
The Frostbitten Paradise is an Abyss puzzle that involves placing Lightning Cubes and batteries to open locked doors and power mechanisms. It sits between Ether Rest and the Path of Trials in the Abyss progression chain. Completing this puzzle grants access to the Path of Trials, where you can learn the Frost Mantle skill.
Location
Access from the Sleet Isles area in Pailune. The progression order through this section of the Abyss is: Spire of Ringing Truth, then Ether Rest, then Frostbitten Paradise, and finally the Path of Trials. After completing the Ether Rest puzzle, follow the wind vents forward to reach the Frostbitten Paradise entrance.
Required Skills
Axiom Force (L3): Used to grapple and manipulate batteries and Lightning Cubes.
Force Palm: Used to lock batteries into receptacles and activate Abyss panels.
Force Current: Used to push batteries into wall slots from a distance.
Step-by-Step Solution
At the entrance, pick up the Lightning Cube and place it down so that it faces the yellow crystal. The beam from the cube must connect with the crystal to power the gate mechanism. Once the connection is made, the gate opens and you can enter the puzzle area.
Inside the chamber, locate the platform on your left (opposite the battery). Stand on the platform to trigger a floor hatch to open.
Drop down through the hatch to the lower level. Locate the floating rectangular battery in this area.
Use Axiom Force to grapple the battery and guide it toward the receptacle in the north wall. Use Force Palm to lock it into the slot.
Follow the wire from the now-powered battery eastward to an Abyss panel on the wall. Climb the wall and use Force Palm (L2 to grab on, R3 to activate) to turn the panel on.
The circular platform on the west side of the area is now active. Use a Jump + Force Palm combination to activate it, which powers the Abyss Gate.
Laser Alignment Tips
The Lightning Cube laser alignment can be finicky. The beam must point directly at the yellow crystal for the connection to register. If the beam fires sideways or at an angle:
Pick up the cube and rotate it before placing it down again.
Small adjustments to the cube's facing angle make a big difference in where the beam connects.
Stand directly behind the cube and look at the crystal to gauge the correct orientation before placing it.
Detailed Puzzle Mechanics (Video Guide)
The following is a breakdown of the Frostbitten Paradise puzzle mechanics based on community walkthroughs and video guides:
Laser Placement
Lasers in this puzzle cannot be picked up with the Axiom grapple. You must manually carry them. When placing a laser, press Triangle to drop it directly in the direction your character faces. Using L1 + Triangle instead does a targeted drop, which can aim slightly differently. Experiment with both methods since the alignment can be finicky. The goal is to aim the laser at the corresponding crystal on the wall. When the laser hits the crystal, the crystal lights up and locks the laser in place.
Battery Placement
Batteries are rectangular power cores that fit into wall sockets. Pick up a battery, rotate it until you see the leaf visual effect, and then punch it into the slot. Jump punches tend to work more reliably than standing punches for battery installation.
Conveyor Belt Room
One room contains a conveyor belt mechanism. Place a laser on the conveyor belt, then power it up using the movable power statue. The conveyor belt carries the laser into a locked room behind a barrier. Aim the laser straight forward before placing it, because once the conveyor moves it, the laser needs to hit the crystal on the far wall. When the crystal activates, the barrier opens and you can retrieve the laser for the next step.
Blinding Light Barrier Technique
One section has a barrier that requires a specific technique. First, move a battery right next to the barrier. Then use Blinding Light (L1 + R1, then hold L1) to temporarily lower the barrier. Quickly release the Blinding Light inputs, grab the battery, and push it through before the barrier comes back up. Repeat the Blinding Light to lower the barrier again so you can enter the room yourself. Inside, twist the battery to find the right angle and force it through a gap in the opposite wall, then crouch through to follow it and slot it into the illuminated pedestal.
Tips
If you get lost, follow the glowing wires. They always lead from a power source to the next objective.
After completing this puzzle, follow the wind vents upward to reach the Path of Trials.
The Frost Mantle skill, learned at the end of the Path of Trials chain, is one of the most useful Abyss skills in the game.
