Overview
The Courtyard of Precision is an Abyss puzzle located within the Path of Providence chain. It is the fifth puzzle in the sequence and centers on simultaneous target activation using the Focused Shot ability. Players must hit groups of floating blocks at the same time across four segments, two at ground level and two on elevated ring platforms, before activating a gear switch with Force Palm. Completing the puzzle unlocks Lightning Lv. 1, granting each playable character their foundational lightning skill, and awards an Abyss Artifact.
Location and Access
The Courtyard of Precision is part of the Path of Providence, the largest Abyss puzzle chain in Crimson Desert. To reach it, you must progress through the preceding puzzles in this order:
Spire of the Stars (entry point)
Sanctorum of Insight
Secret Garden (available after completing the Scholastone Institute questline)
Courtyard of Precision
After completing the Vault of Vengeance, you will use a triangle forcefield mechanism to open a bridge leading to the Courtyard of Precision. Upon arrival, activate the fast travel point before proceeding up the stairs into the main puzzle area.
Prerequisites
The Courtyard of Precision requires specific abilities and equipment to complete. Make sure you have these ready before entering the puzzle area.
Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
Focused Shot | Essential for targeting and hitting multiple blocks simultaneously. For Kliff, this requires leveling both Marksmanship and Focus to Lv. 2 on the Spirit Skill Tree, then spending 1 Abyss Artifact to unlock. For Damiane, Focused Shot is unlocked by default. |
Bow and Arrows | Bring a bow with plenty of arrows. The puzzle requires multiple rounds of simultaneous shots across four segments, so running out of ammunition mid-puzzle forces you to restart or leave to resupply. |
Force Palm | Needed to activate the final gear switch after all four segments are cleared. This ability is learned earlier in the Abyss progression. |
Prior Puzzles | You must complete the Secret Garden and Vault of Vengeance puzzles first. There is no way to skip ahead in the Path of Providence chain. |
Puzzle Mechanics
The Courtyard of Precision features floating blocks suspended in the air. Some blocks are yellow (inactive) and some are blue (already active). Your goal is to turn all yellow blocks blue by hitting them simultaneously with Focused Shot.
Using Focused Shot
Focused Shot allows you to mark multiple targets and fire at all of them at once. While aiming your bow, activate Focus to slow time, then paint each yellow block by hovering over it and pressing RB (Xbox) / R1 (PlayStation). Once all yellow blocks in a group are marked, release aim to fire arrows at every marked target simultaneously. If even one block in a group is missed, the segment will not activate, so take your time and mark every target before releasing.
Segment Structure
The puzzle is divided into four segments: two at ground level and two on aerial ring platforms. Each segment contains a cluster of floating blocks that must all be hit at the same time. Segments can be completed in sequence; clearing the ground segments activates an updraft device that provides access to the aerial segments above.
Step-by-Step Solution
Ground Segment 1
After ascending the stairs and entering the courtyard, you will see a group of floating blocks ahead. Some are blue (already active) and some are yellow (targets). Position yourself on the starting platform where the blocks are clearly visible. Aim your bow, activate Focused Shot, and paint each yellow block with RB/R1. Once all yellow blocks in this first group are marked, release aim to fire. The blocks will turn blue upon a successful hit, confirming that the first segment is complete.
Ground Segment 2
Move to the right side of the courtyard to find the second cluster of floating blocks. For this segment, positioning is critical. Stand in the center of the block formation so that every yellow block is within your field of view. Activate Focused Shot again, carefully paint all yellow blocks, and fire. If any block is missed, the segment will not activate, and you will need to try again. When successful, all blocks in this group will turn blue.
Aerial Segment 1 (Upper Ring)
With both ground segments cleared, a circular platform in the center of the courtyard activates as a wind tunnel (updraft). Step onto it to be launched upward into the sky. While airborne, you will see two floating ring structures above. Aim for the upper ring first and land on it. The ring provides stable footing, giving you a steady platform to aim from.
From the ring, aim your bow, activate Focused Shot, and mark all the floating yellow blocks surrounding this ring. Fire to hit them simultaneously. If successful, the ring will turn blue, confirming that the third segment is complete.
Aerial Segment 2 (Lower Ring)
Ride the updraft again or carefully descend from the upper ring to reach the second, lower ring platform. Land on it and repeat the Focused Shot process: mark all yellow blocks, then fire. When all blocks turn blue, the fourth and final segment is complete.
Activating the Gear Switch
With all four segments cleared, drop back down to ground level. A gear switch will now be active to the north side of the courtyard. Approach it and perform a jumping Force Palm (Palm Strike) on the switch to activate the mechanism. This completes the puzzle and triggers the reward sequence.
Collecting the Abyss Artifact
After activating the gear switch, proceed toward the tower to the north where a visible beam of light marks the location of the Abyss Artifact. Collect it before leaving the area. This artifact is used to unlock further abilities on the Spirit Skill Tree.
Rewards
Completing the Courtyard of Precision unlocks Lightning Lv. 1, which grants each playable character their foundational lightning ability:
Reward | Character | Description |
|---|---|---|
Creates a field of electricity that damages nearby enemies. Area-of-effect lightning skill. | ||
Damiane's foundational lightning combat skill. | ||
Oongka's foundational lightning combat skill. | ||
Abyss Artifact | All | Used to unlock further abilities on the Spirit Skill Tree. Collected from the tower after the gear switch activation. |
After earning Lightning Lv. 1, you can spend an additional Abyss Artifact to unlock Imbue Element, which allows you to switch between elements mid-combat using the radial dial on the Axiom Bracelet.
Tips
Stock up on arrows beforehand. The puzzle requires multiple volleys of Focused Shot across four segments. Running out of arrows mid-puzzle is a common frustration. Bring more than you think you will need.
Precision over speed. Take your time marking every yellow block before firing. A missed block means the entire segment fails to activate, wasting arrows and forcing a retry.
Use the ring platforms for stability. During the aerial segments, always land on the ring before attempting Focused Shot. Trying to mark targets while gliding or falling makes accurate targeting much harder.
Center yourself for ground segment 2. The second ground cluster requires you to stand in the exact center of the block formation so all yellow blocks are within your field of view. If some blocks are behind you, reposition before activating Focused Shot.
Ensure Focused Shot is upgraded. Each level of Focused Shot increases the maximum number of targets you can mark by two (base is 4). If a segment has more blocks than your current capacity, you may need to invest additional points in the skill first.
Progression
After completing the Courtyard of Precision, the path forward leads to the Altar of Solitude, the next puzzle in the Path of Providence chain. To reach it, head through the triangle forcefield, use Axiom Force on the precision switch to extend the next skybridge, and cross carefully (the platforms crumble, so move quickly). A circular teleport platform at the end carries you to the Altar of Solitude.
The full Path of Providence progression is as follows:
Order | Puzzle Area | Key Reward |

1 | Spire of the Stars | Entry to the Path of Providence |
