The Bear is the top predator at the very peak of the food chain in Pywel, the continent at the center of Crimson Desert. Despite their deceptively cute appearance, bears are fiercely territorial and incredibly powerful. They can be encountered as wild animals to hunt for resources, and some bears can also be tamed and ridden as mounts. Bears inhabit all regions of Pywel except the arid Crimson Desert region in the north.
Bears are distributed throughout Pywel with the exception of the Crimson Desert region. They are found in forests, mountain areas, and wilderness zones across Hernand, Demeniss, Pailune, and other regions. Bears tend to be solitary or found in pairs, unlike wolves which travel in packs. A rare white bear variant exists as a legendary animal tied to the "The End of Myth" Hunting Challenge.

Bears are classified as large, heavy animals for hunting purposes, placing them in the same resource tier as boars, moose, rhinos, and elephants.

Some bears in Crimson Desert can be tamed and ridden as mounts. Bear mounts are among the most powerful ground mounts in the game. They have massive HP pools and deal significant damage, making them excellent companions for ground-based combat. Mounting a bear unlocks hidden move sets including long slashes and bite attacks. The trade-off is their low speed, which makes them less suitable for long-distance exploration compared to horses.
Bears are territorial and will attack players who get too close. Their attacks hit hard, and their large health pool makes them one of the most dangerous animals to fight in the wild. They are capable of charging, swiping with their paws, and biting. Bears are strong enough to be considered mini-boss encounters for players with early-game equipment. It is advisable to use ranged attacks and dodge their charges rather than trying to trade blows directly.
Bears received a significant balance adjustment in the Day One Patch (version 1.00.02), which was one of the most notable changes included in the update. Before the patch, bears could deal instant-kill damage to players, making them extremely dangerous even for well-equipped characters. The patch removed this instant-kill capability and adjusted their overall damage output to bring them more in line with their intended difficulty.
Prior to the patch, many players reported that bears were disproportionately lethal compared to other wildlife and even some bosses. The nerf was widely welcomed by the community, though bears remain one of the most dangerous wild animals in Pywel and should still be approached with caution, especially in the early chapters.

Bears are one of the best sources of Large Bone in areas where boars are less common.
The white bear is a legendary variant required for the "The End of Myth" Hunting Challenge. You will need Leebur's Soul from defeating Black Fang to reveal its location on the map.
When fighting a bear, dodge sideways to avoid its frontal charge and counter-attack from the side.
Bear mounts can fight on their own when near you, even when you are not mounted. Consider keeping one nearby during tough encounters.
