Musket

Musket is a Uncommon musket-class ranged weapon in Windrose. An ordinary musket that fits your hands like it was made for you.
Muskets are two-handed long-range firearms. Three of the four muskets scale with Precision; the Infantry Musket scales with Agility instead. Muskets deliver the highest per-shot damage in the ranged roster and favor set-piece sniping, distance duels, and boss encounters where spacing matters. They consume Gunpowder, require Master's Tools as a mid-tier upgrade ingredient, and cannot be paired with off-hand pistols while held.

Craft at the Weaponsmith Workshop (Level 1). Base recipe: Wood x10, Copper Ingot x7.
Upgrading raises the item level (and therefore ATK) in bands, each with its own material cost. Leveling from 1 to 15 is the standard path for every firearm before ascension. Master's Tools becomes a required ingredient from Level 7 onward.

The Uncommon baseline two-hander. Long-range Precision scaling makes it the counterpart to the Pistol and Blunderbuss, but with longer effective range. Replace with Reliable Musket or Buccaneer's Friend once the Rare recipes are available.
Lead with distance. Muskets are at their best when the first shot lands before the enemy closes. Precision builds favor standing-still shots (reduced spread); Infantry Musket's Agility scaling rewards mobile skirmishing instead. Watch your reload windows because muskets are two-handed and leave no parry option during the animation.
Precision-scaling weapons pull from the Precision and Marksman branches of the Talent System. Relevant picks include talents that boost Pierce damage, Critical Damage, stand-still bonuses that extend the Buccaneer's Friend spread perk, and gunpowder efficiency. Precision firearms reward investment in talents that increase rifle-style precision at range.
See the Talent System article for the current list of unlockable talents and their exact bonus values. Every firearm consumes Gunpowder, so stockpiling Sulfur and Charcoal for the Workbench conversion remains a background chore for any ranged build.
Musket sits alongside 3 other muskets on the current live index. Consider the alternatives:
Infantry Musket: Rare / Epic, 575 Pierce, Agility (A). Allows you to perform a special bayonet attack with [F]. This weapon's Damage scales with Agility.
Reliable Musket: Rare / Epic, 600 Pierce, Precision (S). Reloads faster than other muskets.
Buccaneer's Friend: Rare / Epic, 585 Pierce, Precision (A). While standing still, weapon spread is almost eliminated.

Muskets are two-handed and cannot share the main-hand with a one-handed melee weapon the way pistols can. That is the biggest drawback of pure musket play: while the musket is reloading, you have nothing to do except wait for the animation or swap fully to another weapon. The easiest workaround is to keep a Pistol in a second hotbar slot. Pistols reload passively from anywhere in the hotbar, so even while the musket is in hand, a pistol in the second slot is quietly refilling its rounds. When the musket runs dry, the pistol is already loaded and ready for a finisher or a closer-range shot.
The opening-shot pattern. Muskets shine as opening-shot weapons. Stand far back, whip out the musket, land the first hit before the enemy closes, then swap to a pistol plus saber or cutlass kit once the fight becomes a melee. Both weapons scale with Precision, so the stat investment covers the whole loadout and no talent points are wasted.
The exception: Infantry Musket. The Infantry Musket scales with Agility instead of Precision and has a bayonet melee attack on [F], which makes it the one musket that can substitute for the melee main-hand entirely. Pairing it with a blunderbuss or a pistol opens an all-Agility kit that is very different from the standard Precision musket loadout.
Ammunition upgrade. For boss fights and elite encounters, switch to Bullet Arborum for the bonus critical strike damage. Ordinary Iron Bullet rounds are fine for regular mobs and save the Plague Wood and Essence Arborum stockpile for when it matters most.
