The base Hull bracing has no mechanical effect beyond the DEF stat itself. Its value is the raw defense it contributes to the ship at Item Level 15 (DEF 380, matching the top-tier bracket for ship equipment) plus the fact that it fills the hull-mod slot at no plan-paper cost, which frees your reputation-gated plan budget for other categories.
