Hull Bracing: Standfast is a Rare-rarity modded Ship Hull Modification item. It ascends to an Epic tier that layers an extra bonus on top of the Rare effect. Wedges, shores, and lashings kept ready to be driven in when the hull is hit, buying the ship a brief moment to steady herself.

Epic tier: Grants 5 stacks of Standfast effect over time. Taking damage consumes 1 stack and reduces incoming damage by 25% for 3 seconds. Provides additional 3 stacks of Standfast effect (for 8 stacks total at Epic).

How to Unlock

Crafting Hull Bracing: Standfast requires learning Plans: Standfast Hull Bracing, a Rare recipe paper bought from the Smugglers of Port Royal Provisioner once your Smugglers of Port Royal reputation reaches Level 2. The plan costs Piastre x300 and is consumed on use; one copy unlocks the recipe permanently.

Ascend to Epic

The Rare Hull Bracing: Standfast can be ascended to Epic rarity at the Shipwright's Workshop by combining the base Rare bracing with Tumbaga Ingot. The ascension keeps the Rare-tier effect and layers the Epic-only bonus on top, so the Epic bracing is strictly better once the Tumbaga cost is acceptable.

Epic-only bonus: Provides additional 3 stacks of Standfast effect (for 8 stacks total at Epic).

When to Use

Standfast converts incoming damage into stacking charges you can spend across multiple hits. The 5-stack buffer at Rare tier (or 8-stack at Epic) absorbs several incoming hits each at 25% reduction for 3 seconds apiece. Best on skirmish hulls that take frequent small hits between volleys rather than one-shot burst damage. The stacks regenerate over time whether or not you are in combat.

Rare vs Epic Comparison

The raw DEF value does not change on ascension; the only difference is the layered Epic-only bonus that stacks with the retained Rare-tier effect.

When the Upgrade Is Worth It

Standfast Epic extends the stack buffer from 5 to 8. Each stack still reduces one incoming hit by 25% for 3 seconds, so the Epic tier effectively raises your damage-mitigation capacity by 60% under sustained incoming fire. Strong on skirmishers expected to take multiple small hits between volleys rather than one big burst.

When to Skip the Ascension

Ascending burns Tumbaga Ingot x7 per hull slot. If your Shipwright's Workshop is not yet at Level 3, if your current Rare bracing is well below Item Level 15, or if you are still deciding between the three bracing variants, hold the Tumbaga for later. The Rare tier is already strong in isolation, and the Epic is a one-way commitment on that specific variant.
