Overview
A decent alternative to a stone axe. But it won't cut through hardwood.
Copper Axe is the second-tier chopping tool in Windrose. It is a faster and more durable alternative to the Stone Axe for soft Wood, but per its own item description it still cannot cut Hardwood. Players who need Hardwood for mid-game carpentry or shipyard recipes have to wait for the Iron Axe tier.

Loot Sources
The Copper Axe is a craft-only tool with no current guaranteed loot source surfaced by the in-game loot tables. Because its ingredients come from the same Copper Caves chain that also feeds armor and station upgrades, crafting is always the practical route.
Vendor Availability
The Copper Axe is not bought or sold by any vendor. The tool is exclusively crafted at a Workbench Lvl 1.
Uses
Chop Wood faster and for more total swings than the Stone Axe, thanks to 40 percent more durability and a small ATK bump.
Break wooden crate blockades and plank barricades across the Coastal Jungle and the early Foothills Points of Interest.
Emergency melee fallback with 255 Crude ATK. Still below a dedicated Saber or Halberd at the same progression point.
Where it Fits in the Axe Ladder
Image | Axe | Recipe | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter chopper, soft Wood only | ||
5 Copper Ingot + 5 Wood | Faster Wood chopping, cannot cut Hardwood | ||
| 5 Foothills Iron Ingot + 5 Wood | First axe capable of chopping Hardwood | |
| 5 Ingot Arborum + 10 Hardwood | Endgame axe for cursed Arborum trees |
Durability and Damage at a Glance
Axe ATK is flat across the upgrade path, so the practical gains from tier to tier are durability and which wood each axe can fell.
Axe | Durability | ATK | Cuts Hardwood |
|---|---|---|---|
100 | 255 Crude | No | |
140 | 255 Crude | No | |
Higher | 255 Crude | Yes | |
Highest | 255 Crude | Yes |
When to Craft One
Most players build a Copper Axe at the same time they build the Copper Pickaxe, since both sit behind the same Copper Ingot production and both are among the last tools crafted at a fresh Workbench Lvl 1. The axe is optional if you already have a stack of Stone Axes and no pressure on Wood supply, but the upgrade is cheap and the durability jump makes long chopping sessions much less disruptive.
If the goal is Hardwood, skip this tier entirely and save the Copper Ingot for Iron Axe prerequisites. A single Copper Axe never feels wasted, but sinking five more copper into a second one instead of moving up to Iron is rarely the right call.
Tips
Batch your tool upgrades: every time you smelt a fresh 10 Copper Ingot run, set five aside for a tool (Axe or Pickaxe) and five for station or weapon work.
The Copper Axe does not have a durability repair option in-game, so pair it with a stack of spare Wood and Copper Ingot for quick re-crafts during long sessions.
Its 255 Crude damage is identical to the Iron and Swamp axes. The ATK rating on axes is flat across mid and late game, so do not expect noticeably faster kills from the upgrade path.
