Canopies are fabric shade pieces that mount above doors, balconies, porches, and pier decks. They do not block projectiles or weather, but they soften the silhouette of a Wall and clearly mark an entryway. Canopies sit in the decoration layer of the building system, so they read as flair rather than structure.

Canopies attach above walls or to the front face of a pier. They extend outward from the mounting surface and are typically paired with a Door or Double Door underneath.
Because there are only a handful of canopy variants, each one leans heavily on visual identity: a plain Canopy for a tent, an Arched Canopy for a shop front, and a Canopy with Netting for a fishing pier.
Canopies pair naturally with Wall Torches, lanterns, or a pair of Flagpoles flanking the doorway.
Every canopy variant contributes the same Canopy +1 comfort bonus toward a settlement's overall Comfort rating. Comfort is a sub-category bonus, so two canopies of the same type do not stack: a second piece only changes the look, never the score. To gain more comfort from shade pieces, mix a canopy with unrelated decoration categories rather than doubling up.
Since the April 30, 2026 hotfix, a placed canopy also satisfies the covered-station rule. A craft station that requires a roof, such as the Stove, Alchemy Table, or Tanning Rig, now registers an overhead canopy as a valid covering and will place and operate beneath it.
Align the canopy with the door frame underneath so the shade cleanly overhangs the entry.
Use a Pier Canopy on docks to signal a shop or fishing setup.
Comfort +1 bonuses in a given decoration sub-category do not stack. Placing a second piece of the same sub-category does not add more comfort, it only changes the aesthetic.
Hotfix 0.10.0.4.268 on April 30, 2026 changed how Decorative Canopies interact with the building system. Decorative Canopies now count as roofs for the purposes of crafting-station placement requirements. Stations such as the Stove, Alchemy Table, and Tanning Rig that previously refused to operate under an open-air Canopy now register the Canopy as a covering structure and place successfully.
This resolves a common launch-window complaint about open-air kitchens and exterior cooking decks not satisfying covered-station rules. Canopies still do not block projectiles or weather, and the +1 Canopy Comfort non-stacking rule still applies.
