Corrected the roadmap tally: three priorities shipped in full with the Autumn Update and one in part, with Steam Deck Verified separate
Romestead is in Early Access, which means it is actively being developed with player feedback. Immediately after launch the developer favored gathering community feedback over publishing a rigid roadmap, and in late June 2026 shared a first set of Act I priorities. Three of those five priorities shipped in full with the Autumn Update on 31 August 2026 and a fourth in part, and Steam Deck Verified followed on 18 September 2026; chest sorting was the one listed item still outstanding as of September 2026. Patch versions follow a major.minor.point_iteration scheme (for example, 0.25.1_1).
Both hotfixes shipped within twelve hours of the May 25 launch, addressing the most critical bugs reported by players.
Version | Date | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
0.25.1_1 | May 26, 2026 | More fixes to unenterable dungeons; falling through dungeon floors; Burning Fallen Horde no longer appears after first boss; icon updates; localization updates. |
0.25.1 | May 26, 2026 | Crash fix for Magus Ceres Scroll; unenterable dungeon fix; falling through dungeon floors; removed a stray arrow from one of the dungeons; soft-locking fix. |
In the days after launch, Beartwigs shipped a rapid run of hotfixes targeting the most-reported issues. Each built on the day-one fixes above:
Version | Date | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
0.25.1_12 | June 10, 2026 | Updated dungeon droptables so previously-unobtainable items now drop, such as the Druid Scroll. Fixed weapons sometimes not activating their special effects and enemy-dropped trinkets that were missing random modifiers. Logistics now transports items from claypits and lumberyards, and Automatic Scorpios fire for all players. Skeletons and Ashen Skeletons no longer fight each other. Fixed the player spawn point being set incorrectly after sleeping, plus chest and other icon fixes. |
0.25.1_11 | June 8, 2026 | Made Pilums cheaper and faster to make. Fixed a crash while fighting Pyzifax and the inability to place crops next to walls. Fixed not being able to place some furniture on top of other furniture, an issue that created an incomplete save file, and updated several icons. |
0.25.1_10 | June 5, 2026 | Added new damage-type icons and a Slovak language option. Removed the citizen death penalty for failing a raid and fixed the Carpenter prioritising material storages over loose resources. Fixed Catapults at levels 2 and 3 not being removable from the workbench, and the Farmstead can now handle more beehives. Fixed a dungeon chest that could fail to spawn and slightly reduced enemy counts in the Plains and Forest Challenge Dungeons. Pyzifax now gets stunned after spinning, and Ceres Magi now have an attack. |
0.25.1_9 | June 3, 2026 | Added a Player Graves recovery system: invalid grave markers are removed on connect, an inaccessible grave can be moved to the start of its dungeon, and a lost gravestone is recreated at the world spawn point when the world reloads. Citizens now teleport home if they get stuck, can be walked through after two seconds, and Carpenters reach construction sites better with a 90-tile range. Trade routes no longer use a starving citizen as a carrier. Gates close faster and auto-open for players carrying items. Fixed entry to the Cure of Robigus dungeon and a pit in a volcano dungeon. |
0.25.1_8 | June 2, 2026 | Fixed a Depth-of-Field issue in the Temple of Vulcan and the piercing-damage icon; removed negative-only traits from existing citizens; fixed gates not auto-opening for players carrying items; fixed entry to the Cure of Robigus dungeon. This build was reverted the same day because it introduced dungeon problems, and its fixes returned in 0.25.1_9. |
0.25.1_7 | June 1, 2026 | The Logistics Tent is now a reward for defeating the Guardian of Minerva, putting town automation earlier in the game. Negative traits now appear only on citizens that also have positive traits, and the eat-until-full bug was fixed. Gates open and close automatically for players and carts, material-storage capacity was increased, and a Trading Post crash was fixed. Fixed swapped damage numbers on the Flamines Vulcanalis Bow, let the Flamines Volcanalis Armour roll modifiers when crafted, and fixed Tectonic armour rolling the wrong modifiers. |
0.25.1_6 | May 30, 2026 | Carpenter-built walls can no longer be damaged by players (walls already built are unaffected); fixed completed-quest rewards that could not be claimed; quests tweaked so the Watermill and Clay Pit unlock earlier; increased metal-thread stack sizes. |
0.25.1_5 | May 30, 2026 | Citizens made immune to damage until their pathfinding can be improved; fixed construction sites failing to build; fixed the Insula upgrade not unlocking; increased Flour, Empty Pot, and Nail stack sizes; buffed the Scorpion Stinger spear; added a rare Gorgon spawn in the Desert; updated stat icons. |
0.25.1_4 | May 29, 2026 | Added a dedicated-server SleepThresholdMs config option; fixed Pyzifax boss music; fixed placing items on pressure plates; corrected item-data issues; the Legendary Pilum can now be crafted; dungeon softlock fixes; fixed a bug that revealed all boss locations; fixed the Cyclops fight failing to start. |
0.25.1_3 | May 28, 2026 | UI-scaling fixes and Steam Deck UI scaling raised to 3; inventory crash and stability fixes; Flint no longer blocks arrows; fixed citizens in dungeons not being recruited to the nearest town; fixed a Food Storage deposit crash and a Trading Post UI crash; quest dungeons are now marked on the world map until the quest item is taken; boss dungeons reset at the start of each day; the name of the town being raided is now shown; challenge-dungeon rooms reset if you die, preventing enemies from camping the door. |
0.25.1_2 | May 27, 2026 | Numpad now works when splitting stacks; fixed graphical lines over players, animals, and water; increased character-name length from 16 to 32; decreased early-game citizen hunger; spears can now harvest crops; made the Fortified Maze dungeon easier to clear for quest items; the Guardian of Minerva and Great Phoenix of Arabia fights now reset immediately if you die; reduced boar and rat aggro range and boar spawn rate; fixed a Medusa-related crash. |
On 18 August 2026 Beartwigs announced the Autumn Update, the first milestone of the Act I roadmap, for 31 August 2026. It shipped on that date as version 0.26.1 (build 25041797), and after four follow-up patches the default branch has sat at 0.26.1_6 (build 25128773) since 4 September 2026. The update was timed with the game’s participation in a Steam PvE Survival Crafting Fest running 31 August to 7 September 2026.
The full change log, the follow-up patches and what the update left out are on the Autumn Update page. The table below pairs each announced area with what actually shipped.
Area | Announced change | What shipped on 31 August 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Controllers | Steam Input support, described by the studio as controllers finally coming to the game after a summer of preparation. | Shipped: the 0.26.1 change log lists Steam Input support, and the store page now lists full controller support. See Controls and Keybinds. |
Furniture handling | The Press R Furniture Mode toggle is removed; picking up a workbench, barricade or other furniture becomes a press-and-hold of the interact key. | Not listed in the shipped change log, and patches 0.26.1_4 and 0.26.1_5 still refer to a Furniture mode, so treat the removal as announced only. |
Dungeons | Over 30 new dungeons across the world, plus a Challenge Dungeon rework adding over 70 new rooms and stopping repeated deaths at the entrance. | Shipped with a revised count: the change log lists over 20 new unique dungeons and over 70 new challenge dungeon rooms; the over 30 figure was the pre-release estimate. |
World generation | A fix for irregular desert entrance generation. Seeing the new dungeons requires creating a new world. | Shipped: the change log fixes parts of the desert being unreachable on some worlds. New dungeons still need a new world; older worlds are kept but do not receive them. |
Quality of life | A farmland removal tool, demolished decorations returning their materials, sleeping in a wider range of beds, better citizen pathfinding, and the Carpenter helping repair constructions. | Shipped: all five items are in the change log, including a new Carpenter job called Repair. See Citizens and Artisans. |
Multiplayer | Connection improvements including a network connection indicator. | Shipped: more efficient and more stable network code, a network quality indicator that also shows other players' connection quality, and longer tolerance of bad connections before a disconnect. See Multiplayer and Co-Op. |
Wildlife | Rabbits no longer despawn after being picked up. | Shipped: small animals picked up by players no longer despawn. |
Two Act I priorities were absent from the announcement and did not ship with the update: Steam Deck Verification arrived separately on 18 September 2026, while chest sorting had not appeared in any default-branch patch note as of September 2026. Several of the quality-of-life entries above were the same features trialled on the public beta branch below, and the 0.26.1 change log states that it includes the beta branch content, so the update is where that branch merged.
Four default-branch patches followed the update in its first week. No 0.26.1_1 or 0.26.1_2 note was published; the numbering resumed at _3. Newest first:
Version | Date | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
0.26.1_6 | September 4, 2026 | Fixed dialogue option positioning on Steam Deck and other small UI widths. Added localization to the credits. Fixed not being able to Deposit All into Food Storage. Fixed an incorrect dungeon entrance for Savage Treasures. |
0.26.1_5 | Released September 3, notes September 4, 2026 | Movement in the Construction, Logistics and Furniture modes and the construction camera can be re-bound on PC. Fixed some big lag spikes. Fixed Carpenters sometimes not constructing properly. Fixed the art of Arrow Traps. |
0.26.1_4 | September 2, 2026 | Fixes to the Loot All and Quick Stack actions, with advice to reset changed Steam Input layouts to the recommended templates. Added a Deposit All button to inventories. Fixed the furniture mode shift button. Crafters can now grab items from material storage through the logistics tent connection. A cancelled trade route dumps its goods outside the Trading Post after a failed deposit. Walls can be repaired from 10 percent lost health. Updated Medusa's Lair. Hidden chests now look like revealed chests. |
0.26.1_3 | September 1, 2026 | Translation fixes. Added back the Quick Heal action and placed it in the Steam Input action manifest. Added back re-bindable movement keys and UI navigation keys. Fixed server config sometimes resetting. Added new map markers. Farmer beehive job visible at all times; Carpenter defaults to the Constructing job. Mirage scroll summons no longer block Challenge Dungeon gates. Fixed broken droptables. Fixed Phoenixes not dropping raw meat. |
0.26.1 | August 31, 2026 | The Autumn Update (build 25041797): Steam Input controller support; more efficient and stable network code with a quality indicator; over 20 new unique dungeons, rare multi-floor dungeons, themed loot tables and new weapon rewards; a challenge dungeon overhaul with over 70 new rooms; a Material Storage drop-off zone, farmland removal tool, seed return on crop removal and demolition refunds; a Carpenter Repair job; more bed types; bows can roll Precise and Strong, Pristine armour modifiers give Crit Damage, crafted capes roll modifiers; Thai translations; Phoenix fight changes and a Cyclops fight progression fix; a run of enemy, fauna, sound and crash fixes. |
On 2 September 2026 Beartwigs announced that the game had passed 500,000 players in the three months since launch, and said the next major update would be bigger than the Autumn Update, with a new biome, new enemies, new equipment, treasures, new buildings and new bosses; concept art by Josh Robbins was shared with a disclaimer that it does not represent the final product. On 18 September 2026 the studio began a bi-weekly studio update series with the news that Romestead is Steam Deck Verified. The same post said work had officially begun on the next biome and a first internal playthrough of its grayboxed map was complete, that the next major update was still a few months away, that a smaller, snack-sized and seasonally spooky content drop would come first, that community translators are now credited in-game, and that a developer Q&A thread would follow. See Early Access for the roadmap outcome.
Alongside the default branch, Beartwigs runs an opt-in public beta branch on Steam where changes are tested before they are merged. Beta builds carry 0.25.2 version numbers. The 0.25.2 line merged into the default branch with the Autumn Update on 31 August 2026: the 0.26.1 change log states that it includes the beta branch content, and the larger items below (the network rewrite and quality indicator, the farmland removal tool, seed return, demolition refunds, more bed types, the Phoenix changes, the Cyclops fix, Thai, decimals on stats, the save-data fix and the low-core performance work) are itemised again in the 0.26.1 notes. The Sausage recipe and the Potter level cap from 0.25.2_2 are not individually listed there, so the beta post remains the only note for those two. No beta-branch note had been posted since 10 July 2026 as of September 2026; the table is kept as a record of what was trialled and when.
Version | Date | Being tested |
|---|---|---|
0.25.2_1 | June 15, 2026 | Rewritten network code, a network quality indicator that also shows other players' connection quality, volcano loading hitches, furniture crafting crash, Carpenter pathfinding, Automatic Scorpio crash, and a run of sound fixes. |
0.25.2_2 | June 17, 2026 | World loading fixes, bomb fixes, a Sausage recipe added to the Bakery, Automatic Scorpios no longer damaging player structures, and the Potter citizen max level raised to 5. |
0.25.2_4 | July 1, 2026 | Thai translations and font rendering, crash fixes, decimal points on stats, character save-data corruption fix, further network efficiency work, better performance on low-core-count processors, and a batch of building and furniture fixes. |
0.25.2_5 | July 10, 2026 | A Farmland removal tool, crop removal returning the seed, demolition returning materials (including previous building tiers), sleeping in more bed types, experimental Phoenix fight changes, and a fix for the Cyclops fight failing to progress. |
The playtest builds in the final week before launch focused on polish and the Volcanic biome:
Version | Date | Notable changes |
|---|---|---|
0.23.3_3 | May 23, 2026 | Players outside the arena can no longer damage Pyzifax; added a pre-Talos dungeon; Tectonic Maul, Tectonic Scroll, and Mirage Scroll updates. |
0.23.3_2 | May 21, 2026 | Korean and Japanese font improvements; Giant Phoenix collision fixes; Pyzifax fight updates; removed Cursed Bone drops. |
0.23.3_1 | May 20, 2026 | Right-click citizen gifting; Korean translation added; farmstead beehive looting fix; Volumen Vitae healing scaling. |
0.23.3_0 | May 20, 2026 | Password setting for hosting; boss music for multiple bosses; Pyzifax arena visuals; bakery food buffs; bread worship buffs. |
0.23.2_0 | May 19, 2026 | Furnace dungeon fixes; farmstead now gathers honey into output inventory; raid objectives only count raids started by players. |
These playtest patches shaped the launch build:
0.23.1_3 (May 8, 2026) added the Volcano biome, what was then described as full controller support (a pre-release claim undone at launch by a release-build setting; full support arrived through Steam Input in 0.26.1), inventory sorting, an inventory trash can, the Trading Post, the worship overhaul, and the concrete mixer and upgrades.
0.20.1_14 (January 28, 2026) introduced the World Map 2.0 (N key), 50+ new points of interest, the Challenge Dungeon single-path layout, a Desert Mini-boss, Magic Resistance on all enemies, the University, and the Bronze Cart.
0.20.1_23 (February 2, 2026) added the Sagittarii crossbow class, Asian character text-field support, and experimental armor crafting that differentiates melee, ranged, and caster requirements.
Beartwigs is active in the game's community channels and monitors the official discussion board, which has categories for bugs, feedback, and suggestions. The team has credited community feedback for shaping many of the game's features, both during the demo and into Early Access.
