Onix is a Rock/Ground-type Pokemon encountered in Withered Wasteland as part of the main story. It is trapped in a cave and must be rescued during the Yawn Up a Storm quest. Onix has two specialties that make it one of the most important utility Pokemon in the game: Crush (processes Limestone into Concrete) and Bulldoze (leads Pokemon Center demolition for reconstruction).
Onix is found trapped inside a cave in Withered Wasteland, blocked behind hardened terrain. The rescue happens during the conclusion of the Yawn Up a Storm Important Request. After Kyogre arrives and brings rain to the region, the previously impassable blocks in Onix's cave become softened by the rainwater. Use Rock Smash to break through the now-softened blocks and free Onix.
After freeing Onix, return to the group in front of the Pokemon Center to relay Onix's message and complete the quest. Onix becomes a permanent resident of your island and is available for specialty tasks.
Onix has two specialties, both essential for infrastructure and late-game progression:
The Crush specialty allows Onix to process raw materials into refined products. The most important use is converting Limestone into Concrete at a Concrete Mixer:
1 Limestone = 4 Concrete (when processed by a Crush-specialty Pokemon at a Concrete Mixer)
Concrete is a critical late-game material needed in massive quantities. The Rebuild the Huge Building quest in Sparkling Skylands requires 90 Concrete across three floors. The Team Initiation Challenge Stage 4 also requires 50 Concrete. Limestone is found in Rocky Ridges and Sparkling Skylands caves.
Onix can also create colored paint from food using the Crush specialty, and make Cement with a Mixer. Other Crush-specialty Pokemon include Pawmo and Conkeldurr.
The Bulldoze specialty allows Onix to serve as the leader when demolishing Pokemon Centers for reconstruction. When a Pokemon Center needs to be rebuilt, a Bulldoze-specialty Pokemon must be assigned first to clear the site. Onix, Makuhita, and Hariyama are the Pokemon with this specialty.
Bulldoze is also used for relocating or demolishing buildings that the player wants to move or remove from their island.
To set up an efficient Concrete production line with Onix:
Obtain the Concrete Mixer recipe by befriending Conkeldurr in Sparkling Skylands. Craft the Mixer using 2 Iron Ingots.
Place the Concrete Mixer near Onix's habitat.
Gather Limestone from Rocky Ridges or Sparkling Skylands caves.
Load Limestone into the Mixer. Onix automatically processes it into Concrete (1 Limestone = 4 Concrete).

Free Onix as soon as the rain starts during the Yawn Up a Storm quest. Its Bulldoze specialty is needed to rebuild Pokemon Centers.
Onix is the earliest Crush-specialty Pokemon most players encounter. Use it to start Concrete production before reaching Sparkling Skylands.
Stockpile Limestone early. You need enormous quantities of Concrete for the skyscraper (90 total) and Team Initiation Challenge (50).
Place Onix's habitat near your Concrete Mixer and a Community Box for semi-automated Concrete production.
Keep at least one Bulldoze-specialty Pokemon on your island at all times. Without one, you cannot demolish or relocate buildings.
