Planet Zoo 2 is a zoo construction and management simulation developed and published by Frontier Developments. The sequel to Planet Zoo, it is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on 13 October 2026, with all three versions arriving on the same day. Players design and run their own zoos, building natural habitats, caring for a cast of realistically simulated animals, and balancing those animals’ needs against the expectations of paying guests. The sequel keeps the series’ detailed piece-by-piece construction while widening the range of animals a zoo can hold and placing a stronger emphasis on conservation.

What Is New
Three headline additions separate the sequel from its predecessor. Aquariums introduce fully aquatic species kept in custom tanks with managed salinity, temperature, and cleanliness, while Aviaries hold birds that fly freely under generated roofs and now raise chicks in nests. Wildlife Reserves extend play beyond the zoo gates into protected spaces where animals can be returned to the wild.
Frontier describes the sequel as its most advanced zoo simulation to date, pointing to a generational leap in animal animation and behaviour, higher-fidelity creatures, and a long list of community-requested features. A new Planet Hub gives players a single global menu for managing a whole network of zoos and reserves.
Ways to Play
Planet Zoo 2 ships with three core game modes: a structured Career for the in-game Fauna and Ecosystems Network, an online Franchise built around a shared global network and animal trading, and an open Sandbox. Running a successful park means caring for animals and their welfare, described under Animals and Welfare, and keeping guests and staff satisfied. Construction is covered under Building and Construction.
Animals
Seventy-one species had entries in the game’s Zoopedia reference as of mid-August 2026, sixty-five of them in the base game and six bundled with the Deluxe Edition. Frontier adds more each week and has not revealed the final roster size. The list spans mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, ray-finned fish, sharks and rays, and invertebrates, with animals housed in terrestrial habitats, aviaries, aquariums, or smaller exhibits.
Buying the Game
The game is premium and buy-to-play, sold in Standard and Deluxe digital editions with a console disc release on 20 October 2026. Pricing, the pre-order Bonus Content Pack, and the six Deluxe species are covered under Editions and Pre-Orders. PC specifications, platform support, language coverage, and accessibility options are covered under System Requirements and Platforms. The game’s announcement and studio background are covered under Development.
