Chaos is an upcoming playable Esper in Neverness to Everness. The character shares their name with the Chaos element, one of the six elemental affinities in the game's Esper Cycle system. It is important to distinguish between Chaos the character and the Chaos element, as these are separate concepts. Chaos was teased in the Co-Ex Test promotional trailer in February 2026, confirming their place in the upcoming roster. The character's element, rarity, and abilities have not been confirmed by Hotta Studio.

The Chaos element is one of the six elements in the game's combat system, associated with destructive and unpredictable abilities. Characters aligned with the Chaos element at launch include Lacrimosa (S-Rank, Bureau of Anomaly Control ETD-4) and Daffodil (S-Rank, Eibon Antique Shop bodyguard).
While the character named Chaos may be aligned with the Chaos element (which would create a thematic connection between name and abilities), this has not been confirmed. The character could equally be aligned with any of the other five elements: Cosmos, Anima, Incantation, Psyche, or Lakshana. Until the official reveal, readers should not assume the character belongs to the Chaos element based on the name alone.
Chaos was teased in the Co-Ex Test promotional trailer, which accompanied the second closed beta running from February 6 to 20, 2026. The trailer showcased character designs for several unrevealed additions to the roster. According to NTEGame.com's coverage, the trailer gallery included Chaos alongside Chiz, Shinku, Iroi, Nitsa, Elyms, Lingko, and EXE. It remained unconfirmed which of these characters would be fully playable during the test period.
The Chaos element produces specific reactions when paired with adjacent elements on the Esper Cycle wheel. Understanding these reactions is important for team building regardless of whether the character Chaos actually belongs to this element:
Reaction | Element Pair | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Scorch | Inflicts damage over time for 15 seconds | |
Nova | Marks a target, causing a burst of Cognito damage after 5 seconds |
Discord is a trio reaction that occurs when both Scorch and Nova are active on the same target simultaneously. This requires an Incantation Esper, a Chaos Esper, and a Psyche Esper all contributing to the attack chain. Discord reduces a percentage of the enemy's break meter, providing one of the fastest paths to triggering the stagger system. This makes Chaos-element characters particularly valuable in teams that pressure enemy stagger gauges.
Currently, two confirmed playable characters belong to the Chaos element:
Character | Rank | Role | Affiliation | Weapon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
S-Rank | Damage | Bureau of Anomaly Control (ETD-4) | Esper Constructs | |
S-Rank | Damage | Not yet detailed |
If Chaos (the character) is indeed aligned with the Chaos element, they would join this group and could trigger Scorch and Nova reactions. If aligned with a different element, the name would serve as a personality or lore reference rather than an element indicator.
Character names in Neverness to Everness are diverse and sometimes thematic. Lacrimosa (Latin for "weeping") is a Chaos-element Esper with a dramatic, gothic design who is obsessed with tomatoes and creates constructs to fight while she naps. Merula takes its name from the Latin word for blackbird, matching her avian visual theme. Baicang draws from Chinese nomenclature. A character named "Chaos" could represent an especially volatile or destructive personality within the lore, or it could be a title or alias rather than a given name.
Chaos was not among the playable characters during the Containment Test (July 2-16, 2025) or the Co-Ex Test (February 6-20, 2026). The Containment Test featured a roster including Mint, Nanally, Sakiri, Lacrimosa, Fadia, and Skia, with Hotori, Baicang, and Hathor added as new playable additions during that test. The Co-Ex Test expanded the roster further with characters including Chiz. Chaos's introduction timing, whether at launch on April 29, 2026, or through a post-launch update, has not been announced.
