Marvel's Wolverine is a single-player action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, in collaboration with Marvel Games. It launched for PlayStation 5 consoles on September 15, 2026, and it did not come to the previous console generation. The game puts you in control of Logan across a linear, narrative-driven campaign built around close-quarters claw combat, an original story, and a healing factor that doubles as a combat resource.
The story is original rather than an adaptation of an existing comic run, and it is deliberately not an origin story. Logan already has his adamantium skeleton when the game opens, but not his memories.

Premise
Three years after walking out on his team, Logan rejoins the mutant task force Team X. The anti-mutant billionaire industrialist Bolivar Trask is having mutants abducted, and the opening mission sends the team into a Trask facility in the wilds of Telambang to free Nathaniel Essex, the man who formed the team and who found Logan years earlier in a feral state.
Mutants in this setting live in the shadows, afraid of the people hunting them, while the rest of society is unaware they exist at all. The X-Men do not exist yet. The stated themes are identity, loyalty, and Wolverine's forgotten past.
The full narrative setup, the cast of allies and antagonists, and the places the campaign visits have their own pages: Story and Setting, Characters, Team X, Enemies and Factions and Locations. The people and places with pages of their own are Logan, Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, Nathaniel Essex and Bolivar Trask; Reavers, The Hand, Sentinels and Bosses; and Telambang, Vancouver, Madripoor and the Princess Bar.
How it plays

Combat is melee-focused and close in. Logan parries, dodges, and cuts through groups of enemies, and finishers called Critical Strikes can be performed alone or alongside a teammate. A Rage meter fills as he fights and rises through three tiers, changing how he moves and hits, and it also fuels the healing factor that keeps him standing.
Outside fights, Enhanced Senses let Logan track enemies, scents, conversations, and music. A traversal system built specifically for a heavy character lets him climb rocks and trees, close distance with a lunge, and move across rooftops during chase sequences. Set pieces break that pattern occasionally: one puts him on a motorcycle tearing down a highway through a Reaver convoy, leaping between moving trucks as he fights.
Progression runs on two layers. Technique Points buy and improve combat moves, among them Special Techniques, the rechargeable ones assigned to shortcut slots. Four can be equipped at once. Six are named in PlayStation's own gameplay guide: Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker, Relentless, Spiral Strike, Overwhelm and Brutal Assault. See [[Special Techniques]]. Adaptations are the second layer: dozens of passive perks that amplify Logan's momentum by absorbing more bullets, raising the effectiveness of Rage, widening the parry window, or letting him terrorise a fight mid-swing. They are equipped against a limited allowance rather than stacked freely.
Exploration feeds the same systems. Material crates are found by listening for them and supply what Logan crafts suits from, and acquiring suits raises his maximum health rather than only changing how he looks. Whisky bottles are tracked by scent and hand back memories, and both sit alongside XP Caches in the game's set of collectibles. Optional Nightmare Doors take Logan into timed trials that return more of that lost past. Behind those doors is Logan's Nightmare Cabin, the hub holding the features available at launch: New Game Plus with exclusive Techniques and raised level caps, Mission Replay, and the Nightmare Challenges score attack mode, with Photo Mode announced to join them in the launch update. As of September 21, 2026 no first-party note confirms which update delivered it. See Combat, Rage and Healing Factor, Progression and Upgrades, and Nightmare Doors.
Structure

The campaign is linear. Game director Mike Daly has said the team did not set out to make an open world or a sandbox, and wanted a high-octane, high-intrigue linear single-player adventure whose missions reflect that in their structure. The official FAQ states the same thing plainly: the game is not set in an open world.
Post-launch guides count 30 main missions, grouped by region; their names and order are on Missions.
Creative director Marcus Smith has tied that choice to the character. Logan is not anchored to a city the way a hero with a home turf is, so the game moves through a succession of smaller, purpose-built areas instead of one large map. The camera sits tighter in than Insomniac's previous superhero games, and the HUD is deliberately minimal so attention stays on the world rather than on readouts.
Editions and pre-orders
The Standard Edition is $69.99 USD. The Digital Deluxe Edition is $79.99 USD and adds five suits, five claw types, and extra Technique Points, though official surfaces do not agree on how many. A third listing, the Digital Deluxe Upgrade at $10.00, converts a Standard Edition purchase into the Deluxe contents after the fact. Pre-ordering any edition includes an early unlock for the Classic Brown Suit and the Reflective Claws, one further Technique Point, and a set of four avatars. A physical disc release is also sold.
A trailer showing the Digital Deluxe suits and claws followed on August 20, 2026. Full contents, every listed currency, and the named cosmetics are on Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.
Platform features
The game targets 60 frames per second with ray tracing on a base PS5, and that is the default mode rather than an optional trade-off. On PS5 Pro it is PS5 Pro Enhanced and uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are supported, along with Tempest 3D audio, Photo Mode, Game Help, Remote Play, and Power Saver.
Details, including the rendering work done for hair, characters, and blood, are on Technical Features and Performance.

After launch
On launch day Insomniac said it was actively engaged with its player community and gathering feedback to refine the experience. Two hotfixes followed inside the first week: 1.001.004 on September 15 fixed an English voice-over bug and two progression blockers, and 1.001.005 on September 19 addressed crashes for a small percentage of players and reduced the opacity of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, the presentation element that drew the most criticism at launch. The studio says it is exploring toggleable options for Senses in a future update; no toggle has shipped. The full notes and the acknowledged known issues are on Updates and Patch Notes, the Senses change is described on Enhanced Senses, and how the game reviewed and how players rated it is on Critical Reception.
Limited Edition hardware

A Limited Edition hardware line accompanies the launch: a Battle Yellow PS5 Digital Edition console bundle, Battle Yellow and Adamantium DualSense wireless controllers, and console covers in both finishes for PS5 and PS5 Pro. The artwork was designed in collaboration with the comic artist Jock. Pre-orders opened on August 19, 2026. This is merchandising rather than game content, and none of it changes anything in the game itself.

Wolverine's suit from MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls unlocks in this game through standard progression on day one, and from September 1, 2026 the crossover runs the other way as well, with a skin inspired by this game unlocking in that one. The score is by David Fleming; the main theme, "Logan", released as a single on July 24, 2026, with the full soundtrack following on August 28, 2026. A digital prequel comic was produced alongside the game. Its story is tie-in material and is not treated as confirmed in-game content here.
An official art book, Marvel's Wolverine: The Art of the Game, is scheduled for November 3, 2026: a full-colour hardcover of around 200 pages priced at $54.99, collecting concept art, designs, and commentary, written by games historian Alex Forbes-Calvin. Like the prequel comic, it is tie-in material rather than confirmed in-game content.
Credits for the cast, the development leads, and the tie-in material are on Cast and Crew.
