Exploration

Exploring the world is how you find new Animon, uncover the story, and discover hidden rewards. LumenTale: Memories of Trey is set in Talea, a land split into the regions of Logos and Mythos, with towns, wilds, and dungeons to explore on foot.
Regions and Towns
Talea is divided into two halves. Each region holds its own towns and landmarks, such as the port city of Costa Linda and the entertainment hub of Voltar. As the campaign progresses you gain access to more of the map. See World and Regions for the overview.
The Day and Night Cycle
Time of day matters. A day and night cycle changes which Animon appear in an area, so a spot that is quiet in daylight may be busy after dark, and vice versa. Returning to the same place at different times is one of the best ways to round out your collection. Some evolutions also require the right time of day, such as Deniuli evolving in daytime and Almyuna evolving at night.
Weather
The world also has its own shifting weather. Some routes will be dusted with familiar rain or sun, others with stranger phenomena. Weather can nudge stats and abilities in any battle that starts under it, so what is happening overhead is part of the encounter, not just a backdrop.
Rainbow Weather
Rainbow Weather is a rare condition that can spawn anywhere on the world map with no guaranteed location, so you may need to hop between areas (saving and reloading can help) until a rainbow appears. While it is active, a rainbow shows in the top-left corner and lasts throughout the day, and the weather symbol by the minimap indicates it. The effect buffs accuracy, healing, and critical hit chance for all Animon, including enemies. It is especially useful for evolving Chagma into Gongbog, since Chagma needs five critical hits in one battle, and it is required to evolve Minube into Chromaura once you have all six Minube colors. See What is Rainbow Weather and All Minube Locations.
Walking With Your Animon
You can select one creature from your party and bring it along as you travel towns, cities, and routes. Companion walking is a small touch in mechanical terms, but it makes the bond between Trey and his roster a visible part of exploration.
Holoken Abilities
Your Holoken grants overworld abilities tied to the elemental type of an Animon on hand. A Geo-type ability can destroy boulders that block a route, and an Aura-type ability can propel devices that open gates or power structures. A Grass-type ability is used to cross gaps and reach platforms, and these powers are unlocked one at a time as you progress the story. Building a balanced roster opens more paths in the field as you travel.
Breaking Rocks
Rocks are scattered throughout the map, from boulders that block a path to Anivite Crystals that hold crafting materials. To break one, switch to a Geo Type Animon with the Holoken and aim at the rock; you can still dash while aiming if wild Animon are chasing you. Caves, such as those in the Scarlet Woods and Area 01, are dense with Anivite Crystals, making them strong sources of Anivite and gemstones like Ruby and Sapphire. Using a Repel in caves helps keep wild Animon off your back. Rarer materials such as Anivite EX only appear after you progress further into the game. See How to Break Rocks.
Dungeons

Talea is dotted with dungeons. These hold rarer Animon and hidden treasures, making them worth seeking out once you have a capable team. Official descriptions encourage players to explore all the dungeons of Talea to meet rare creatures and find what is hidden inside.
Postcards and Points of Interest
Some hidden Points of Interest are revealed through postcards you find in the world. Reaching one rewards bonus experience for your Animon, so the postcard loop is a small but steady way to push your team past a level wall outside of forced battles.
Fast Travel
You can fast travel to Lumen Clubs in cities through the map. Cities are marked with a diamond icon, and once you select one you look for the blue marker showing the Lumen Club's location and confirm the travel prompt. Fast travel is unlocked after you visit your first city and its Lumen Club, and from then on you can use it from any location at any time. If the local map is open, expand it to the world map first using the prompt in the bottom-left corner. Note that places like Iris Hamlet and Points of Interest have no special markers and cannot be fast-traveled to. See How to Fast Travel.
Hoverboard Traversal
Later in the adventure you unlock a traversal tool called the Hoverboard, also called the Holoboard, which lets you cover ground far faster than walking. It is obtained as part of the main story: during The Lagoon City quest if you went north, or during the City of Fire quest if you went south. Once obtained, you ride it with a button prompt.
Platform | Hoverboard Button |
|---|---|
Nintendo Switch | Left Analog Click |
PC | Ctrl |
The Hoverboard is the closest the early-to-mid game gets to free movement, but most of that stretch is still meant to be explored on foot. See How to Use the Hoverboard.
