Holoken
The Holoken is the single most essential piece of equipment a Lumen carries in LumenTale: Memories of Trey. It is the tool you throw to catch Animon, the thing that lets you fight alongside them, and the reason certain routes open up as your roster grows.
It also matters to the story. When Trey first learns about the Lumen and the Animon, the Holoken is what feels familiar to him, despite his missing memories, and that recognition is part of what pushes him to become a Lumen at all.
Catching With the Holoken
Wild Animon turn up across Talea in grassy plains, caves, and water. When you meet one you can either throw the Holoken straight away or fight it first.
Landing a throw starts a quick-time catching sequence. The better you perform in that sequence, the higher the catch rate climbs, so catching rewards practice rather than just item count.
What Raises Your Catch Rate
Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
Lowering the target's HP | Weakening an Animon in battle first is the largest single increase to catch rate. |
Quick-time performance | Doing well in the catching sequence after a successful throw pushes the rate higher. |
Choosing the right Bilia | Matching the kind of Bilia to the target maximises your chances. See Items and Currency. |
Elemental Abilities in the Field
Outside of battle the Holoken channels the elemental power of an Animon you have on hand, which turns your roster into a traversal toolkit. These abilities unlock one at a time as the story progresses, so a balanced team opens more of the map.
Type Used | What It Does |
|---|---|
Breaks boulders that block a route, and cracks open Anivite Crystals for crafting materials. | |
Propels devices that open gates or power structures. | |
Crosses gaps and reaches platforms that are otherwise out of range. |
In Battle
The Holoken is also how you send Animon out and harness their elemental powers in combat, whether in a one-on-one duel or a four-on-four team battle. See Combat System and How to Catch Animon.
