Transmigrators

Stated the player's transmigrator origin as published fact with the Chosen Child of the Fool framing, relabelled the beta-scope caveat, and kept the deeper novel cosmology hedged
Transmigrators (穿越者) are people from a different world, in the source material's framing modern Earth, whose consciousness has been carried into a body on the Northern Continent. They are exceptionally rare: the source material names only a handful across the entire Fifth Epoch. Their importance to the world's history is out of all proportion to their number, and the player's character is built to walk the same kind of path.
Transmigrator | Arrived | What they changed |
|---|---|---|
Around 1143 of the Fifth Epoch | Sparked the Northern Continent's industrial revolution, led the Intis revolution, and shaped the modern political and technological landscape. Died roughly two centuries before the campaign opens. Remembered by a second epithet, the Knowledge Emperor, for the archives he assembled. | |
Klein Moretti (originally Zhou Mingrui) | 1349 of the Fifth Epoch | Joined the Tingen Nighthawks under captain Dunn Smith, founded the Tarot Club, and is the canonical Sequence 0 Fool. |
The player's character | The campaign's present | Published copy states it plainly: the player is a Chinese person who has crossed into the Western mystical circle, and starts out under the protection of a fellow countryman, Mr. Fool. See Player Character. |
Transmigrators carry knowledge from another world. In Roselle's case that meant the steam engine, the scientific method, modern firearms, and large-scale political philosophy. In Klein's case it is subtler, cultural references, modern problem-solving frames, a particular scepticism toward divine claims, but it compounds over the campaign into real ritual innovation.
Transmigrators are also unusual inside the world's own ritual frame. They leave a different kind of imprint than native-born Beyonders, and their ritual signatures echo through the Gray Fog in ways the world's cosmology does not fully explain. That is a load-bearing plot element in the source material's later arcs and a recurring thematic touchstone across the game's campaign.
The player's character in Lord of Mysteries is a third figure on the transmigrator path, and the game says so rather than implying it. Published copy describes the player as a Chinese transmigrator who crosses into the setting's Western mysticism circle and begins under the protection of a fellow countryman, Mr. Fool. What stays understated is the delivery: the player creates an original Beyonder through Character Creation, and the campaign lets the origin sit in the background rather than announcing it in dialogue.
The Fool's patronage is explicit in the opening. The player is framed as the Chosen Child of the Fool (愚选之子), met during the opening death-loop nightmare and handed a Fool card that grafts abilities out of their own future onto them. See Mr. Fool's Grafting for what that grants. The same patronage carries into ordinary life: the player is hired straight into Blackthorn Security Company as a night watcher without an interview, a nepotism hire arranged through Leonard Mitchell.
That is also where the game draws the line between the player and Klein. Official copy makes the contrast the joke: Mr. Fool worked his own way up from a clerk's desk into Beyonder work, while the player's entry point is pure connections. The player is not Klein Moretti, and the campaign never asks them to be.
The player's own transmigrator origin is published. The wider transmigrator cosmology is not. The imprint Roselle and Klein leave on the world, how it echoes through the Gray Fog, and what it eventually means for the Epoch cycle are spoiler-heavy strands of the source material, and how much of that surfaces in the game has not been published. Treat those strands as novel background rather than confirmed game canon until the build shows them.
The earlier betas kept the transmigrator concept as a low-key worldbuilding element, and the launch build's opening acts do much the same: the origin is stated, the cosmology is not. This page stays general for that reason.
