Overview
Leonard Mitchell (莱昂纳德·米切尔) is a captain of the Red Gloves in the Backlund diocese in Lord of Mysteries, and the NPC most new players meet before they meet anybody else with a job to offer. He starts as a member of the Tingen City division of the Nighthawks, the same chapter as Klein Moretti and under Dunn Smith's captaincy, and later joins the elite Red Gloves cross-jurisdictional unit. In the Tarot Club he is known by the codename The Star.
In the Launch Build
Leonard is confirmed in the launch build, and he is the reason the player has a job at all. Official material has him walk the player straight into a night watcher post at the Blackthorn Security Company with no interview, which the copy itself jokes about as landing a well-paid municipal post through connections. He then personally administers the potion that turns the player into a Beyonder.
He has a running joke attached to the player versus player layer as well. If the player dies in open combat and leaves behind a Beyonder trait, Leonard recites a poem over it, on the grounds that requiems are also his profession.
He works as a turn-in contact too. Anomalous items collected while exploring the Order World (秩序世界) are handed to Leonard in Tingen for large sums of bound gold pounds, which makes him one of the recurring stops in the daily loop rather than a one-scene introduction.
Background
Leonard Mitchell starts the source material as a Tingen Nighthawk under Dunn Smith's command. He works alongside Klein Moretti during the Tingen arc and is one of the introductory figures a new night watcher meets through the Blackthorn Security Company cover identity.
After the Tingen arc, Leonard joins the Red Gloves in the imperial capital and operates as a captain. His joining is partly motivated by personal vengeance against Ince Zangwill, a Beyonder antagonist tied to the deaths of Dunn Smith and other Tingen Nighthawks during the city's doomsday.
Pathway, Sequence and Abilities
Leonard is a Beyonder of the Darkness Pathway, the line most strongly associated with the Nighthawks and the Red Gloves. The game's own character material places him at Sequence 3, the Fear Bishop (恐惧主教), which is demigod standing; the ladder counts downward from Sequence 9 at entry to Sequence 0. See Sequences.
He houses an Error Pathway parasite revealed in the source material to be Pallez Zoroast, an Angel of the Zoroast Family who guides Leonard after losing most of His own power. The parasite tutors Leonard in the Acting Method and in Beyonder investigation technique, giving him a level of intuition and deductive ability well above his nominal rank. His combat profile leans on that deductive sense, on his Darkness-Pathway abilities, and on the parasite's mentorship.
Tarot Club Codename
Leonard's Tarot Club codename is The Star, and the game's character material uses the same title for him. Within the Club's ritual structure he sits at the Star seat and contributes investigation and deduction to the gathering. His relationship with Mr. Fool is built on a pre-existing friendship from the Tingen Nighthawks days, though the ritual's identity-obscuring Gray Fog keeps the in-Club personas separate from real-world identities.
Later Content
The Red Gloves side of Leonard's story belongs to Backlund, and Backlund is not part of the launch build. It is announced future content on the studio's published multi-year plan, so cross-jurisdictional case lines, high-Sequence mentorship and access to elite Beyonder gear through him are things to expect rather than things to do today.
Personality
Leonard's personality is intuitive and analytic. He projects a relaxed surface, being a bit of a flirt and generally good company, over a sharp investigative mind. The Pallez Zoroast parasite intermittently surfaces as an in-character voice in his head; in cinematic moments the player sometimes overhears Leonard's internal dialogue with the parasite, which adds humour and worldbuilding depth without requiring explicit exposition.
Player Relationship
In Tingen, Leonard is the colleague who vouched for the player and keeps turning up: the hiring, the induction potion, the turn-in counter, and a eulogy the player would rather not need. How reputation with him is tracked, and whether it carries into later regions, has not been published.
