Fishing

Fishing is one of the gathering activities in inZOI, available across all three playable regions. Zois can cast a line at designated fishing spots found along rivers, beaches, piers, and from boats. The activity was present in a basic form at the game's Early Access launch in March 2025, with the free Island Getaway update significantly expanding the system by adding the Cahaya region, fishing rods, new fish species, boat fishing, and full integration with the Collection Log. Fish can be kept as trophies, displayed in aquariums, filleted for cooking ingredients, or sold for Meow.
To start fishing, locate a fishing spot in the world. In Dowon and Bliss Bay, look for tackle boxes or duffel bags (holdalls) placed near bodies of water. Interact with one to open the fishing menu. In Cahaya, you can also fish from the back of a boat as long as your Zoi owns or has crafted a fishing rod. The fishing process itself is largely automatic — your Zoi casts the line, waits, and eventually pulls something out of the water without requiring timed button presses or a minigame.
Each fishing interaction offers two options:
Go Fishing — free to use. Your Zoi fishes with standard bait and has a normal chance of catching common species and non-fish items.
Fish with Advanced Bait — costs 5 Meow per attempt. Increases the odds of catching rarer and more valuable fish. Advanced bait does not guarantee a rare catch but noticeably shifts the probability toward higher-quality results.
Catches happen fairly quickly, so it is common practice to queue up multiple fishing actions in a row. Results are randomized, with the specific pool of possible catches determined by your location (freshwater vs. saltwater), the fishing rod tier being used, and whether you opted for advanced bait.
After the Island Getaway update, fishing rods became an important factor in determining what species you can catch. Rods can be purchased at the Farm Store in Cahaya or crafted at a Crafting Table. Each rod tier unlocks access to progressively rarer fish:
Wooden Rod — the starter rod. Can be crafted from basic materials at any Crafting Table. Catches common freshwater and saltwater species.
Copper Rod — available at the Farm Store. Required for some mid-tier fish such as the Teira Batfish and Sweetlips.
Silver Rod — unlocks access to premium catches including Sea Bream, Cuttlefish, and Ghost Sea Turtle. Needed for many boat-fishing species in Cahaya.
Gold Rod — required for high-value species like Blue Marlin, Great White Shark, and Mahi Mahi.
Jewel Rod — the highest tier. Required for the rarest catches such as Zebra Shark and Whale Shark. Can be crafted using gemstones obtained from mining.
Zois start with the ability to fish without a rod at base tackle-box spots, but investing in higher-tier rods is essential for completing the fish section of the Collection Log.
Harang River Park in Dowon offers two fishing spots along the river: one on the east bank and one on the west bank. Both spots provide access to the full freshwater fish catalog, including Carp, Archer Fish, Catfish, various Koi varieties, Guppies, Trout, Fahaka Pufferfish, and the protected Red Arowana. The river environment means all catches here are freshwater species. Tackle boxes are available at both locations.
Bliss Bay has two main fishing spots. Sunset Bay features a corner railing overlooking the sea where Zois can fish. North Beach has docks and piers extending into the ocean with tackle boxes and holdalls available for interaction. Both locations provide access to saltwater species including Banded Butterflyfish, Black Ocellaris Clownfish, Emperor Angelfish, Seahorse variants (Yellow and Pink-tinged), Squid, Sweetlips, and Trumpet Emperor.
Cahaya, added in the Island Getaway update, is the most diverse fishing region with three distinct fishing zones:
Cahaya Beach (saltwater) — similar species to Bliss Bay, plus Cuttlefish and Sea Turtle variants (regular and ghost). Higher-tier rods like Silver and Gold unlock additional species here.
Cahaya Boat (saltwater) — premium offshore fishing. Requires a boat and a fishing rod. This is where the rarest and most valuable catches appear: Blue Marlin, Cobia, Mahi Mahi, Sea Bream, Great White Shark, Skipjack Tuna, and Zebra Shark. Many of these require Silver, Gold, or Jewel rods.
Cahaya Park (freshwater) — shares the same freshwater catalog as Dowon’s Harang River Park. Includes Archer Fish, Carp, Catfish, Fahaka Pufferfish, Guppy varieties, Koi varieties (Yellow, Red, Golden, Ghost), Red Arowana, and Trout.
inZOI features dozens of catchable fish and other items. Species are divided into freshwater and saltwater categories, and some can only be caught with specific rod tiers.
Found at Dowon Harang River Park and Cahaya Park:
Archer Fish — common freshwater catch. Cannot be filleted.
Carp — common, available with all rod tiers. Can be filleted into Fish Fillet.
Catfish — mid-tier freshwater species.
Fahaka Pufferfish — uncommon freshwater catch.
Guppies — available in multiple color variants. Small display fish.
Koi — available in Yellow, Red, Golden, and Ghost variants. Sought-after for aquarium display.
Red Arowana — a protected species. If caught, the game prompts you to release it. Keeping it may result in a fine. Required for Collection Log completion.
Trout — common freshwater species with multiple variants.
Found at Bliss Bay and Cahaya coastal and boat fishing spots:
Banded Butterflyfish — common beach catch. Cannot be filleted.
Black Ocellaris Clownfish — Bliss Bay and Cahaya beaches.
Blue Marlin — Cahaya boat fishing. Requires Gold rod or higher.
Butterflyfish — common. Cannot be filleted.
Cobia — can be caught from Cahaya boat spots. Can be filleted.
Emperor Angelfish — Bliss Bay beaches and Cahaya coast.
Great Barracuda — more common when using Advanced Bait.
Great White Shark — Cahaya boat fishing. Very rare, requires high-tier rod.
Mahi Mahi — Cahaya boat. Can be displayed in a Medium or Large tank.
Ocean Sunfish — rare offshore catch.
Painted Sweetlips — can be filleted. Found at beaches and boat spots.
Sea Bream — Cahaya boat. Can be displayed in a Large tank.
Seahorse — available in Yellow and Pink-tinged variants.
Skipjack Tuna — Cahaya boat fishing.
Squid — saltwater catch from beach locations.
Swordfish — can be filleted. Found at various saltwater spots.
Teira Batfish — requires Copper rod or better.
Trumpet Emperor — Bliss Bay and Cahaya beaches.
Whale Shark — the largest catch in the game. Extremely rare. Requires Jewel rod from Cahaya boat.
Zebra Shark — Cahaya boat. Requires Jewel rod.
In addition to fish, Zois can pull up miscellaneous items while fishing:
Garbage — the most common non-fish result. Catching garbage makes your Zoi "Annoyed." Can be discarded.
Biko Doll — a small collectible doll. Rare find that can be kept as a decoration.
Larger fish species can be turned into Fish Fillet items. To fillet a fish, have your Zoi hold the caught fish in hand, then click on it and select the Fillet Fish action. The fish will be converted into one or more Fish Fillet items that are stored in the household inventory. Not all species can be filleted — smaller fish like Butterflyfish, Archer Fish, and Banded Butterflyfish cannot. Filletable species include Swordfish, Shark, Carp, Painted Sweetlips, and Cobia, among others.
Fish Fillets have a key advantage over whole fish: they do not expire. Whole fish will spoil if left out for too long, but fillets remain fresh indefinitely, making them the preferred storage method for cooking ingredients.
There are two main ways to sell your catches for Meow:
Secondhand Sale Stall — purchase a Second Hand Sale Stall from the Flea Market Items tab in Build Mode. Place fish on the stall, then select the "Sell Secondhand" action. This is the most straightforward method.
Pocket Market — use the Pocket Market app on your Zoi’s smartphone to list items for sale, similar to an online marketplace.
Rarer and larger fish generally sell for more Meow. Using Advanced Bait to target higher-value catches can be a profitable strategy, especially when fishing from the Cahaya boat where premium species like Blue Marlin and Mahi Mahi appear.
Fish Fillets serve as ingredients for certain recipes in the Cooking skill. Once a Zoi reaches Cooking Skill Level 3, they unlock the ability to prepare Flatfish Sushi, which requires Fish Fillet as a primary ingredient. Higher cooking levels may unlock additional fish-based recipes. Cooked fish dishes restore hunger when eaten and can also be sold for profit. Ingredients for recipes can be ordered through the PocketMarket app on the smartphone if you don’t have them on hand.
Caught fish can be placed in fish tanks purchased through Build Mode to serve as living decorations in your Zoi’s home. Tanks come in different sizes — Small, Medium, and Large — and certain species require specific tank sizes. For example, Mahi Mahi can be displayed in a Medium or Large tank, while Sea Bream requires a Large tank. Smaller species like Guppies and Seahorses fit comfortably in Small tanks. Fish tanks add to the aesthetic quality of a room and can serve as a visual showcase of your fishing progress.
Every fish species caught is automatically recorded in the Collection Log under the Fishing category. The Collection Log tracks which species you have caught and which remain undiscovered. Completing fish sets by catching all species in a category can unlock exclusive furniture rewards. Since some species are location-exclusive (for example, boat fishing species only appear in Cahaya) and rod-tier gated, completing the full fish collection requires investing in higher-tier rods and visiting all three regions.
Queue multiple fishing actions in a row to maximize your time at a fishing spot. Each catch resolves relatively quickly.
Invest in Advanced Bait (5 Meow per use) when fishing from the Cahaya boat. The premium species available there sell for significantly more than the bait cost.
Fillet large fish immediately after catching them to avoid spoilage. Fish Fillets never expire.
If you catch a Red Arowana, decide carefully whether to keep it or release it. It is flagged as a protected species and keeping it may carry consequences, but it counts toward Collection Log completion.
Upgrade your fishing rod progressively. The Jewel Rod is expensive but required for the rarest species in the game.
Fishing can be a relaxing way to pass time while waiting for other activities to complete, such as gardening crops growing or cooking timers finishing.
