Custom keymapping is a control customization feature added in the v0.7.0 Anniversary Update (March 2026). It allows players to rebind all keyboard controls to their preference through the Game Menu. This was one of the most requested features from the community since inZOI's launch.
Press Esc to open the Game Menu.
Select Settings from the menu options.
Navigate to the Controls or Keybindings tab.
Click on any action to highlight it, then press the new key you want to assign.
Confirm the change. If there is a conflict with an existing binding, the game will prompt you to resolve it.
Click Apply to save your changes.
Changes take effect immediately after saving. You can reset all keybindings to their defaults at any time through the same menu.
The following table lists the default keyboard bindings. All of these can be remapped:
Category | Action | Default Key |
|---|---|---|
Movement | Move Forward | W |
Movement | Move Backward | S |
Movement | Move Left | A |
Movement | Move Right | D |
Camera | Rotate Camera Left | Q |
Camera | Rotate Camera Right | E |
Camera | Zoom In | Scroll Up |
Camera | Zoom Out | Scroll Down |
Camera | Toggle Camera Perspective | TAB |
Enter Build Mode | I | |
Rotate Object | R | |
Free Placement | Hold Alt | |
Interface | Open Smartphone | P |
Interface | Open City Edit | M |
Interface | Pause / Game Menu | Esc |
Interface | Open Cheat Console | Ctrl+Shift+C |
Photo Mode | Hide UI | Ctrl+Shift+U |
Speed | Speed 1 (Normal) | 1 |
Speed | Speed 2 (Fast) | 2 |
Speed | Speed 3 (Fastest) | 3 |
Speed | Pause Time | Space |
Custom keymapping covers all keyboard-driven actions in the game. This includes:
Character movement and camera controls
All Build Mode shortcuts (object rotation, grid toggling, free placement)
Interface shortcuts (Smartphone, City Edit, Game Menu)
Gameplay speed controls (pause, normal, fast, fastest)
Photo Mode controls and UI toggling
The cheat console activation shortcut
Mouse bindings and controller mappings are not part of the custom keymapping system as of v0.7.0. These may be added in a future update.
If you assign a key that is already bound to another action, the game will display a warning and ask how you want to resolve it. You can either swap the two bindings, unbind the conflicting action, or cancel the change. This prevents accidentally losing access to important controls.
Here are some common keybinding adjustments players find useful:
Left-handed setup: Remap movement from WASD to arrow keys or IJKL for more comfortable left-handed play.
Build Mode focus: Move Build Mode to a more accessible key like F1 or B if you spend a lot of time building.
One-hand play: Group frequently used actions (Smartphone, Build Mode, speed controls) closer to WASD so everything is reachable with one hand on the keyboard.
Photo Mode shortcuts: Bind Photo Mode entry and UI hide to easily accessible keys if you take frequent screenshots.
Write down your custom bindings in case you need to set them up again after a reinstall or major update.
Start by only remapping the controls that feel uncomfortable, rather than changing everything at once.
The "Reset to Default" button is always available if a custom setup stops working for you.
Check for key conflicts before finalizing. Overlapping bindings can cause unexpected behavior during gameplay.
If you are using the macOS version of inZOI, note that some modifier key combinations (Cmd-based) may behave differently than on Windows.
