Overview

Every career in inZOI falls into one of two categories: Active or Rabbit Hole. The distinction determines whether you can see the interior of the workplace and directly control your Zoi during their shift, or whether the Zoi disappears into a building for the duration and you receive only periodic updates. A third, smaller group of Part-Time careers exists as well, offering lighter schedules with active-style gameplay.

Across the three playable cities, Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Cahaya (added in the Island Getaway expansion), there are over 30 distinct career positions. Dowon and Bliss Bay each have their own set of active workplaces, while all nine Cahaya careers are rabbit hole jobs. Understanding which type suits your playstyle is one of the most important decisions early in a new household, since it affects how you spend your Zoi's working hours, how fast they get promoted, and how much Meow they bring home.

How to Apply for a Job

To find employment, open your Zoi's Smartphone and select the Careers app. Navigate to the Recruitment tab to see all available positions, their employers, and current openings. Tap on a listing to apply. If a position is already filled at a particular employer, the game will notify you and give you the option to have the current employee quit so your Zoi can take the slot. Keep in mind that your Zoi can only apply for positions matching their current qualification level; beginners must start at entry-level ranks.

Once hired, your Zoi will commute to work about one hour before their shift begins. You can view your current career, rank, salary, schedule, and promotion progress at any time through the Careers app on the Smartphone.

Active Careers

In an active career, you follow your Zoi inside the workplace and directly control them during their shift. You perform specific work tasks that fill the promotion progress bar, interact with coworkers, and engage with the work environment. Each city has its own set of active workplaces. Active careers currently exist only in Dowon and Bliss Bay; Cahaya does not have any active careers at this time.

The Bliss Bay Amusement Park actually offers three separate positions under one employer: Convenience Store Cashier (310 Meow, 1 rank), Field Worker (760 Meow, 1 rank), and Office Worker (380 Meow entry, 1,550 Meow as Office Team Lead, 2 ranks). All three follow the same 11 AM to 8 PM schedule and work three days per week.

Active Career Task System

Each active shift is divided into two halves: morning and afternoon. Your Zoi receives between 3 and 6 total tasks per day, split across both halves. Morning tasks must be completed before midday, and afternoon tasks must be finished before the shift ends. Each individual task has its own time limit displayed in the top-left corner.

Autonomy and Active Careers

The Autonomy setting, toggled with the T key, determines how much your Zoi acts on their own during active shifts.

Critical rule: The player must be actively present with (controlling) the Zoi during their shift for promotion credit. If you send the Zoi to work but switch to controlling a different household member during the shift, the working Zoi earns their salary but makes zero promotion progress. This is one of the most common mistakes new players make with active careers.

Rabbit Hole Careers

In a rabbit hole career, your Zoi boards a taxi and disappears for the duration of their shift. You cannot enter the workplace or control the Zoi directly. Instead, periodic notifications and workplace event choices appear during the shift. Good event responses fill the career bar faster, while poor choices slow progress. All rabbit hole careers in Dowon and Bliss Bay work three days per week.

Cahaya Careers (Island Getaway)

The Island Getaway expansion added the Cahaya island chain with nine new careers. All of them are rabbit hole jobs; there are no active or part-time careers on Cahaya. No part-time positions are available on the island either. Most Cahaya careers have three ranks, but Farmer and Miner are single-rank starter jobs.

Farmer and Miner are entry-level positions designed for new island residents and teenagers. The Farmer works every day of the week but only for a short morning shift, while the Miner works similarly short daily hours. Neither career offers rank progression, so they function more as supplemental income than long-term career paths. The Criminal Boss position (2,169 Meow) is the highest-paying job on Cahaya, followed by the Partner Lawyer (2,040 Meow).

Part-Time Careers

Part-time careers are active jobs with lighter schedules and typically lower pay. They work three days per week. All current part-time jobs are active, meaning you control your Zoi at the workplace just like full-time active careers. Part-time positions are available only in Dowon and Bliss Bay; Cahaya does not offer part-time work.

Promotion Speed Comparison

The most significant gameplay difference between active and rabbit hole careers is how fast your Zoi climbs the ranks. Active careers allow you to directly complete tasks that fill the promotion bar, which means a focused player can reach the next rank in just 3 to 4 working days. Rabbit hole careers rely on attendance and event choices, which means it typically takes 8 to 10 working days per rank.

Meow-per-Hour Efficiency

Not all high-salary careers are equally efficient when you factor in shift length. Careers with 6-hour shifts (9 AM to 3 PM) earn significantly more Meow per hour than those with 9-hour shifts, even if the total daily salary is lower. This matters for players who want to maximize income while leaving time for other activities like running a business or developing skills.

The Partner Lawyer at either law firm offers the best Meow-per-hour rate in the game at 340 Meow per hour, thanks to the short 6-hour shift paired with a high salary. The Criminal Boss earns the highest total daily salary (2,169 Meow), but the 9-hour shift brings the hourly rate down to 241 Meow. These rules apply to every career type, whether active, rabbit hole, or part-time:

Switching Careers

You can switch careers at any time through the Smartphone Careers app. Open the Recruitment tab, browse available positions, and apply for a new job. Your Zoi will leave their current position and start at the entry rank of the new career. Switching resets your career bar to zero, so all promotion progress in the previous career is lost.

There is no cooldown or penalty for switching beyond the reset. This means you can experiment with different careers freely, though frequent switching will keep your Zoi at low-paying entry ranks. A practical strategy is to try an active career early on so you can promote quickly and build savings, then switch to a higher-paying rabbit hole career once your household finances are stable.

Choosing the Right Type

Tips and Strategies

• Keep your Zoi's needs high before any work shift. A hungry or tired Zoi performs worse at both task completion (active) and event choices (rabbit hole). Fill their needs the evening before or early in the morning.

• For active careers, the player must be present during the entire shift for promotion credit. Switching to control another Zoi means zero career progress for the working one, even though they still earn their daily salary.

• Active careers are best for players who enjoy hands-on gameplay. If you find yourself constantly tabbing away during shifts, a rabbit hole career might be a better fit.

• Queue multiple task actions during active shifts to prevent idle gaps between tasks. When one task finishes, your Zoi should already have the next interaction queued.

• Prioritize short-deadline tasks first. Uniform changes typically have a 1-hour window at the start of the shift and will fail if you delay them.

• For rabbit hole careers, always read the event text carefully. Choosing the positive or ethical response tends to yield more career bar progress than the negative options.

• Consider starting with an active career for faster early income, then switching to a higher-paying rabbit hole career once you have savings. The Entertainment Planning CEO position (1,296 Meow, active) is a strong stepping stone before transitioning to Lawyer or Criminal.

• On Cahaya, the Farmer and Miner jobs are best treated as temporary positions. Their 120 Meow daily salary cannot sustain a household long-term. Apply for the Tour Guide, Lawyer, or Criminal career as soon as possible for meaningful income.

• If you want the absolute best income-to-time ratio, aim for the Partner Lawyer at either law firm. The 6-hour shift and 2,040 Meow salary leave your Zoi with a full afternoon and evening free for other activities.

• You can check career progress, salary details, and upcoming work days at any time through the Careers app on your Zoi's Smartphone. Use this to plan household activities around work schedules.
