The Old Mine is the primary ore-mining complex controlled by the Old Camp in Gothic 1 Remake. It is the economic backbone of the Old Camp's deal with the Crown and the largest active ore operation in the Valley of Mines.
The Old Mine is one of the first remake environments Alkimia Interactive publicly showed. The August 2022 reveal trailer opens inside the mine and has a scripted scene in which Minecrawlers attack two diggers working the ore seam. That scene remains one of the clearest pre-release looks at how the remake handles underground combat and lighting. The studio has since stated the Old Mine's environment art is "pretty much finished," with NPC placement and behaviour still being finalised ahead of launch.
Ore output. The Old Mine generates most of the magical ore the Old Camp ships out through the Barrier.
Political lever. Control of the Old Mine is the core of Gomez's power. Without it the Old Camp's deal with the Crown collapses.
Source of labour conflict. Mine labour is what Gomez's regime runs on, and the mine is where the Colony's class tensions play out most directly.

The mine is dangerous even for its own workers. Minecrawlers nest below the mining levels, and encounters with them are one of the reasons the mine is a combat location as well as an economic one. The Flaming Torch is a useful tool for navigating dim sections before engagement. The Minecrawler Queen, for which Alkimia has released a separate concept animation, is the mine's major boss-tier encounter.

The New Camp does not operate in the Old Mine, and its own mining is handled at the Free Mine. The rivalry between the two camps plays out partly through competition over access, labour, and ore flow from their respective operations.
