Expanded terrain movement exceptions, artillery, obstacles and flying-only variants
Battlefield terrain changes avoidance, movement or other combat conditions. Move the pointer over a tile to see its terrain information in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Terrain also affects enemies. Mounted units can sometimes avoid difficult-ground penalties by dismounting, while flying units ignore many ground restrictions. Healing tiles, damaging ground, artillery and warp tiles have separate functions.
Terrain | Avoid modifier |
|---|---|
Dense Brush | +40% |
Forest or Brush | +30% |
Thicket | +20% |
Desert | -20% |
Wasteland | -40% |
Terrain or object | Practical rule |
|---|---|
Desert Sand | Mage-category classes avoid its movement penalty |
Forests and shrubbery, including thick variants | Hunter-category classes and Pugilists avoid their movement penalty |
Ornius cavalry | Avoids the usual mounted movement penalty |
Ballista | Requires a bow-wielding class |
Fire Orbs | Requires a magic-wielding class |
Onager | Any class can operate it |
Warp Tile | After warping, the unit retains its remaining Movement |
Explosive | Attacking it damages and Immobilizes foes within its area |
Artillery has limited ammunition and cannot fire in rain. Break destructible obstacles with ordinary attacks when possible to conserve weapon durability. Some barriers block flying movement while permitting ranged attacks; use the tile information rather than assuming every wall can be flown over.
These labels identify flying-only terrain variants. They do not make every tile with the same broad name passable to fliers.
